No. I threw out a hypothetical that the people that actually wrote the rules likely considered.
So, they NEVER considered that a DAD may ask money from the #2 choice, and having been rebuffed, kid signs with #1 choice?
Really? That is how YOU read the rules? You honestly think that was an unforeseen posibility and THAT loophole was left in?
Let me help...NO WAY!!
IF it went down EXACTLY like you HOPE (AU was not solicited and did not pay), the kid is stil, and DEFINITELY, ineligible.

As I said earlier, BHP...the level of denial from this bunch is staggering.

The level of misinformation and outright lies here is what's staggering.

I understand why and what the Aubies are hoping for, but there is no way Cam isn't ruled ineligible if Cecil asked for money. Zero chance.
Dareus missed two games for less than a grand that "he didn't know about." At that rate, cam will be ruled ineligible for 400 games.

. Cam had zero knowledge of any solicitation.
The Schad article stated that Cam called one of the MSU recruiters and said he wasn't coming to MSU because his dad chose Auburn and the "money was too good."
If that is true, Cam knew by the time he signed with Auburn, if not at the time his dad had the "discussions" with Rogers, et al. At this point, if all of the other allegations that there was solicitation of MSU for money are corroborated (as in the voice mails, text messages, etc.), it will make this assertion by the MSU sources for Schad, more credible, and denials that Cam knew more unlikely.
I think on your second assumption that we can rest assured MSU didn't pay money. But that Cam knew is likely. It might be a question of when he knew, but there is at least strong reason to believe that he knew around the time he signed with Auburn.
If his lack of knowledge is relevant to a determination of eligibilty at the time he signed with Auburn (and that may not prove to be of significance depending on how the NCAA interprets and applies the rules or how the SEC applies it own, somewhat different rules), then when he knew might be important.
The likely scenario:
Cecil: Son, you're signing with Auburn.
Cam: Dad, why? I want to go to MSU.
Cecil: Because the money is too good.
Cam: Do I have to go to Auburn?
Cecil: Yep.
Cam signs with Auburn, then calls his recruiter at MSU (per Schad report) and says, "Sorry, the money was too good."
Seems more likely than:
Cecil: Son, you're signing with Auburn.
Cam: But I want to go the MSU.
Cecil: You have to go to Auburn because I say so.
Cam: Ok, Dad.
Cam signs with Auburn.
Shortly after he signs:
Cecil: Cam, we got money for you to go to Auburn.
Cam: Oh, I guess I better call the folks at MSU and tell them.
Now the above scenarios assume that Auburn (through a booster) paid Cecil or Cam, which of course remains to be proven. But if Auburn is shown to have paid, Cam's lack of knowledge will be difficult to credit if Schad's sources about the phone calls are accepted as credible. Given the now seemingly credible reporting from multiple sources (from MSU, Rogers, Bell, Bond, the Atlanta TV station), there is little doubt that Cecil either directly asked or consented to requests to pay for play for Cam.
It seems somewhat hard to believe that the same game wasn't played with Auburn when MSU refused payment. Not impossible, of course, just hard to see as likely. The reported "money was to good" conversation so far has more corroboration from what we have seen so far than the denials.
We shall see, but will anyone be surprised if a money trail isn't found?

I don't know if someone else posted this in the post already because I didn't feel like reading 10 pages.
Anyway, read this from Clay Travis:
Anyway, read this from Clay Travis:

The Southeastern Conference bylaws offer specific language that could render Auburn quarterback Cam Newton ineligible to play any sport at all league institutions. That's what careful study of the Ethical Conduct provision of the SEC bylaws has revealed to FanHouse. In particular, Section 14.01.3.2 dealing with Financial Aid states (bold added for emphasis):
"If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference (except such aid or assistance as such student-athlete may receive from those persons on whom the student is naturally or legally dependent for support), such student- athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career."
