Unless you are the AD then who cares about saving money? I care about my school being willing to spend whatever it takes to have the best chance of winning. Anytime you can hire a guy that has had a Top 25 D almost every season for 16 years when you have a D that just finished up a 2nd season outside the Top 100 you do it.

I also remember the days when A&M was a given to be a Top 20 defense year in and year out with the Wrecking Crew. I always assumed that would be the case as we had a run for nearly a decade where every starting LB played in the NFL. College football is a fickle thing though and it doesn't take long to fall into a dumpster fire.

I don't think I've ever seen someone go from "top 3 coordinator who is untouchable"to "he is the reason for so many losses and we are all so happy he is gone" so quickly
