Yea but they give out a shiteload of academic scholarships, which I’m sure these guys are on. Had a friend on a rival high school team that went to Harvard to play and trust me when I say he was very well taken care of.

They do financial aid packages for students. Essentially free grants to cover 100% of need based on each applicants situation.

Recruited athletes still have to make base academic index standards for Ivy League entry, but there is a MUCH higher chance of getting accepted if you are Recruited in football, basketball or lacrosse (I think I recall it being 80%+) compared to the less than 6% acceptance rate for normal applicants.

Bottom line: they are not hurting for money and imagine NIL has been good to them as well given the alumni deep pockets

Ivy League teams are very well coached, fundamentally sound and force you to play their game.

True Harvard has a massive Endowment, #1 in the nation....but you're assuming the Ivies care like the crazy sports obsessed SEC.

If rich alumni were the be all and end all in collectives and NIL, Stanford would dominate football and basketball.

Its not the super elite paying players, it's a collective of car dealership and real estate guys and rabid boosters in rabid fan country.

The Ivy's usually produce a salty team or two every year in basketball and have since Pete Carill's Princeton teams... forty years ago.

But the LSU basketball team didn't make it to the dance with players receiving scholarships and more.

Jimmy Haslam (and the Haslam family) is as super-elite in terms of money as it's gonna get outside of some sovereign prince. I don't like the man and ultimately he's still an East, TN boy but he is a fricking billionaire and NFL owner. He's on Forbes' List for frick's sake.

And it's not like the Waltons are some small time family even though they're more interested in humanitarian stuff right now than bailing out Arky.

And outside of the SEC, did you forget that Phil Knight came to Oregon with a simple question "how much money do you need to make Oregon a contender?"
