That magazine article was based on the word of a "witness," who claimed his phone or radio or something somehow got tuned into Wally Butts and Bear Bryant in the middle of discussing the fix over the telephone.

How can a CFB fan in the South, especially an Auburn fan, not know about this story and the fact that Bryant and Butts jailsexed the publishers in a court of law. Trolling works better if you're not doing so out of ignorance.

And in fairness....the reported fix was not to LOSE or WIN games...it was to make score a little closer than the Vegas line...Bama was prohibitive favorite to win by a LOT. In the early 1960s UGA was rather mediocre.
Im not saying a fix was done...as a long trial proved otherwise when Saturday Evening Post was sued. Its not like today when the social media is all over everything. You read about things a day or two later. SEP went out of business not long after being judged guilty of libel.
