If State's season goes off the rails and they move on from Arnett would that be an option?

Would State fans want him back?

Would Mullen want that job?

I don't think he wants any college football job with NIL and the portal.

He always hated recruiting and roster management, so now that there's so much more involved with it, I can't picture him wanting to deal with all that. Plus he's really stubborn so he'd have to learn to adapt, which he probably wouldn't be able to do.

I could see it happening but I agree it would not go well

Mullen probably needs to go to a conference like ACC or Big 12
Houston Cougars might be a decent fit for him with Holgorsen not starting out well this year
UVA or Va Tech might work in the ACC

I think Cincinatti once they shitcan Satterfield could be a landing spot too.

There are people who can be hired to do that for Mullen. I think he could end up at Arkansas if he wants to. Mullen could likely be in play for a few SEC jobs in the near future if he wants to be.

tom herman's weird arse would be the perfect fit at State.

he's a giant killer, doesn't have to deal with huge power structure at the top, runs a perfect system for a team like State, can more than meet expectations every year. it's like having dan mullen except herman is a good recruiter.

State's dumb-arse AD should've hired him this past off-season.

Who would hire them for him?

The AD?

He also sucks at hiring/firing assistants.

Who would be realistic options for them to hire?

Mullen
Kane Wommack
Jon Sumrall
Phil Longo
Mike Macentire
Barry Odom

How attractive is that job in the NIL world?

I would hire a GM kind of dude/gal that has the knowledge to navigate Free agency and contracts to assist me in that realm of things.

Mullen would have to do that, but I don't think he'd have the willingness to even try to deal with it even with a "GM" type of assistant.

He likes doing things his own way and doesn't like learning new ways of doing things. The guy basically had to have a gun put to his head to fire Todd Grantham, who absolutely sucked as a DC.

I don't disagree with you, but damn, there is a lot of money to be had in coaching.

Maybe he'll consider it once he stops getting his buyout money. But I think he's making okay money in the booth too.

I wonder if that's the way things will shift toward for college football in the future.

At the end of the day, I see someone like Coach O’s girlfriend, Brandi, getting the State job.

That won't happen, we've got a brand new AD that has already shown he does not have the gonads to make big decisions ie: keeping Lemonis around.

Would take him back in a heart beat, but as others alluded to, he would not do well with NIL and transfer portal.

Would Mullen want that job?

Never say never, but he is doing pretty well for himself without the stress of running a college football program in the SEC.
