would LSU have ever managed to leave Ole Miss from the kiddie table and join the big boys at the dinner table?
doubtful
being able to lure saban away from the B1G did wonders for lsu. much like bert will do for tFlagship...

Mike Archer ended his four year's as LSU HC with a winning % of 59% to be replaced by Curly Hallman who won just 36% of the games played in his four years as HC. The decline was so real, LSU was more than content with a coach winning 57%
In Bert's first year he had a 25% winning percentage. He appears to have a BMI of at least 40% (morbidly obese).
If I were you I would worry about Bert getting his winning percentage above his BMI.

I think I just heard another team score another touchdown on Arkansas.
Nevermind, that was the sound of the cleaning lady shining up the Golden Boot.
I think I just heard an lsu fan deflecting form the OP's premise

Good thing he's a puss.

You know the last time Arkansas won back to back bowl games?
1975 & 1977
1975 & 1977

Bottom dweller? No way. With the talent accessible to them even if they had an average recruiter, I just don't see how that could happen.
Now whether they'd had the fantastic success they've enjoyed the last 14 years...who knows? If they'd not hired Saban, who would've been hired? And, they probably would never have gotten CLM.

well the OP is a little ridiculous. And frankly, it's very telling for where Arkansas' fans are at with their current program. It's a sad day when you have to use complete hypotheticals about the past in order to get bites.
He got a few, but overall, a little pathetic.

Yeah this thread is sad even for an Arkansas fan.

You can say that about both Bama and LSU.
Spurrier also did the same with Florida and South Carolina.
Now Sumlin with TAMU, Art Briles with Baylor
The right coaching move can change a program forever.

J Booty, Craig Nall and Rohan Davey won two bowl games and all logged time in the NFL. Davey won 10 games, Booty won 8. They won an SEC Title as well.
All were DiNardo recruits.
Josh Reed - 1st round pick, 1st Team All American, Belitnikoff Award Winner at WR. DiNardo recruit.
Domanick Davis and LaBrandon Toefield both played in the NFL and were dynamic playmakers for Nick Saban.
Both were DINardo recruits.
On Defense, Ryan Clark has won two Super Bowls, an SEC Title and just extended his career recently by signing with an NFL team this past offseason.
He was a DiNardo recruit.
Treverwnce Faulk and Bradie James won SEC Titles, Freshman All-American and All American Awards in their careers. James retired after a 10 year career in the NDL.
Both were DiNardo recruits.
DiNardo stunk as a coach and was always worried about hiring people smarter than him and then trusting their judgement. Morris Watts and Carl Reese were both run because DiNardo realized that and felt threatened.
But Saban found far from a bare cupboard when the wheels of the jet touched down in BR.

Your premise is somewhat flawed.
In Archer's first year, LSU was ranked #5 with a 10-1-1 record. LSU was also co-SEC champions in his second year. Things fell apart in the third and fourth years before Archer's forced resignation.
That was just an outright poor hiring decision and a debacle from beginning to end.
In DiNardo's first year he managed to beat #5 Auburn, #14 Arkansas, and trounced Nick Saban-coached Michigan State in the Independence Bowl.
In DiNardo's second year, LSU finished 10-2 and ranked #12, having beaten #14 Auburn. They also tied for 1st in the West.
In DiNardo's third year, LSU finished 9-3 and ranked #13, having beaten #1 Florida. They also tied for 1st in the West.
Things fell apart the final two years because of DiNardo's stubborn refusal to replace his inept defensive coordinator, Lou Tepper.
So, all in all, LSU experienced several peaks during the '80s and '90s. They were clearly a strong and respected program; however, there's no debate that Saban lifted LSU to elite status. I think any number of coaches would have certainly returned LSU to a position of strength and respectability, but I don't know that any other coach could have pushed LSU into the upper echelon of football programs like Saban did.

They could finish 5th in the West this year if Ole Miss and A&M have surprise years.
So could any SEC West team.
LSU has great in state talent and no in state competition. LSU would be a bottom dweller if it kept hiring losers like Hallman, Archer, Dinardo, J.L.Smith, Bert.
