The other downside is the possibility of having to break a two way tie between teams that did not play to determine who would go to Atlanta.

Perhaps go by the combined record of their conference opponents?

That, or winning percentage vs common opponents. Neither is ideal, but like I said, it may be worth it to have a better schedule.

Sure. Then we'll add Miami back on the schedule and get OSU to play us every year.

OOC for UF:

Auburn
FSU
Miami
OSU

I think the SECR would finally be happy with our scheduling.

This is why I want 10 SEC games. With a 6-2-2, you would see everyone h&h within like 4 years. Plus it allows If and AU to play every year.

Going around your arse to get to your elbow with this.

Just eliminate permanent cross division opponents. It really is that simple.

Join the club. We could play Oregon, Oklahoma, FSU and the Denver Broncos as OOC and the rant would still bitch about Bama's schedule

Excellent idea! Im all for it. Ive always liked playing the gators -- my first one was Sully/Beasley VS Reaves/Alvarez in 1969. Great win in Auburn.
Lets do it!

Divisions are a requirement for the SECCG. Given how wildly successful the SECCG has been, Slive will never get rid of divisions.

But Auburn is a huge rival for y'all?

Historically, absolutely.

We have lost as many games to Auburn as we have Played vs Tennessee...and won almost as many.

I dont think this is true, you are just allowed to have divisions after a certain point

It's true. To have a conference championship game you must have two divisions according to the NCAA. I think that's why the Pac doesn't have a conference championship game.

I mean, as a Florida fan, if I just want to enjoy watching good football and not worry about trophies, I'd like Auburn and Miami on the schedule very year...

but if that were the case, check out Florida's average annual schedule:

CUCAKE
Miami
Kentucky
ROTATING WEST
Tennessee
LSU
Missouri
Georgia
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Auburn
Florida State

THAT IS frickING BRUTAL. Florida would never win another national title. But the games each week would be very entertaining.

It's true you must have 12 teams spilt into two divisions.

NCAA made a rule that requires a league to have at least 12 football teams -- split into two divisions -- in order to play such a game.

except they do, the big 12 doesn't have one because they don't have enough teams.

No. That question was raised when the schedule rotation was announced. SEC has said it will not allow member teams to play each other as an OOC game in football.

Well that sucks.

Luckily we get to play Clemson again to make up for the loss.

They are currently a requirement. However, once the Power 5 schools gain autonomy, then they will probably change that requirement and let the conferences decide for themselves how they want to determine their championship game participants.
