Cam Sutton disagrees

Make no mistake, that's on Cam and not Willie. We produced a decent DB every now and then (Asher Allen, Reshad Jones, Demario Minter, Paul Oliver) but for every high 4 or 5 star, there were undersized or undercoached guys aplenty all around them.

You forgot to mention Prince Miller. But that begs the question: why couldn't he [can't he] coach a full-sized human to play corner? It still appears he cannot.

Prince was a good return man, not necessarily a good DB. Tim Jennings, on the other hand, was tiny and still playing in the pros.

ETA: Besides his general piss poor playcalling and preparation, UGA fans likely remember him most for shoehorning former 5* Bryan Evans into every starting lineup despite the fact that he was clearly lost every game. Willie at least appeared to love playing favorites

Haha oh yeah 4 OT...I lived in Knoxville at he time, we ripped 3 or 4 doors off the hinges and burned them in our front yard after that loss. Good times

Croom. Take your pick on clock mismanagement, calling a timeout only to come out of the TO and still get a delay of game, etc.

Stull had to be an idiot, because any other coach would have went batshite crazy and probably gotten tossed.

Preseason top 5. Basically the same roster as 2004 plus Karlos Dansby and Dontarrious Thomas at LB. Managed to lose 5 regular season games including an 0-2 start with a loss to Reggie Ball led Georgia Tech.

The coaching in 2003 was so bad that the 2004 team started ranked #17 and wasn't able to make up the ground.

Worst coaching moment for your school?

Ordering $1000 worth of room service for your stripper friend on the university credit card.

Although, in a sense, this 'coaching moment' was the impetus for our hire of Saban. With a slight detour through the Shula years.

Fran - letting Auburn roll over us in 2002. he already made up his mind about ATM and phoned the last couple games in. What a bastard.

Price - thinking it would be ok to have one more round at the bar.

Shula - Keeping Prothro in the Florida game. He stays healthy we potentially beat LSU and Auburn.

Saban - that fake punt against Texas on the first drive. very odd that he would allow that. Other than that things have been pretty good.

Keeping him in the game wasn't the bad coaching moment. Allowing your QB to throw him a jump ball in the endzone when you're up by 4 TDs with 10 minutes in the game was the bad coaching moment.

And yet on the primary SEC message board I hung around in those days, to a man the Bama posters defended not only Prothro's presence on the field but the play call as well.

At least until the following year, when they all cited it as yet another reason why Shula was incompetent.

It's too easy to say everything about Mike Sherman's last season.

Slocum - 2 instances come to mind.

1999 Sugar Bowl. 4th and inches from the Ohio State 30 down 10 with 5 minutes to go and he punts.

2000 vs. Oklahoma. 1st and goal from the 8 down 35-31 with 2 minutes left. 280+ lb Ja'Mar Toombs, who just ran for a 19 yard TD with 3 Oklahoma players hanging on his back, isn't in the formation once the entire 4 downs.

Dennis Francione:

2005 Clemson - kicking the PAT up 1 with 2 minutes left.

2006 Oklahoma - Kicking a FG down 4 late in the game.

2006 Nebraska - Running a freshman running back to the sideline up 6 trying to ice the game.

Kevin Sumlin:

2013 - Not firing Mark Snyder after that abortion of a defense.

1. Charlie McClendon missing on 4th down and not kicking the tying field goal against Ole Miss and Archie in Nov 1969.
We tie them 26-26 and we are 9-0-1 and play #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl (as it was supposed to be anyway.)
Instead we lose 26-23, go 9-1, and the Cotton rescinds informal Cotton offer to #7 9-1 LSU and chooses #11 8-2 Notre Dame over us...

2. Curley Hallman and Lynn Amedee - the whole 4th quarter at Auburn in 1994. We led 23-9 and Auburn's QB Nix was injured. We had only to run the ball the entire 4th quarter and the final score might still have ended up 23-9 as they couldn't move the ball at all.
Instead, Amedee (with Hallman's approval, ostensibly) calls for pass after pass after pass from Jamey Howard, which results in 3 pick sixes and one of the most confounding losses ever in the history of sport.

3. Up 17-14 on Bama in Nov 2012 in a frenzied DV, with about 2 minutes left in the game and a first and 10 from the Bama 28, Miles decides to be safe and run, which promptly results in a bad pitch and a 6 yard loss - which virtually assured 2 up-the-middle plunges and a field goal.
Miles outsmarted himself that game. He gambled when he shouldn't have (fake FG on 4th and 10) and didn't gamble when he should have.
Of course Alleman missed the FG. And then 3rd and last 2 minutes Chavis blows the game....

Mike Price- without saying

Gene Stallings- S. Alexander hasnt played all season. HAS to play due to injury vs LSU and runs for 296. Doesnt play the rest of the season until the Michigan bowl game and basically wins the game when he is FINALLY put in the 4th qtr and almost runs for 100 yds in that qtr alone. Gene was great but the game had passed him by. Playing Dennis Riddle over Alexander
