At some point you wear out your welcome as a head coach when it is a sport that people follow. Head golf coach? Be vaguely competitive and you can retire with a full state pension.

But basketball, football, and at some schools, baseball and you have to deliver. Hell, Sam Pittman drug Arkansas back from the very brink of death in football and he's now as popular as crotch rot. Cal had a great run when he got there but lets be honest, with the talent he has been drawing to Kentucky he hasn't delivered diddly doo da for quite some time.

The fans are tired. More importantly the big money donors are tired. If you are the AD is Cal the hill you are willing to die on?

Better shots and shot selection would have won the game. Sheppard had a terrible night also. I don’t recall Cal playing in the game.

We owe allegiance to no crown. The only King in Lexington is Christ. Cal isn’t King, he is a coach that was great but like all of us with age eventually needs to accept we are not what we once were.

I’m sure you blamed the players when Shula was fired.

And it isn’t about one fricking game either. If this were an isolated example we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Not his decision if we have his buyout.

I would be worried about Stoops.

They should go get Will Wade. The guy is a star and LSU shouldn’t have got rid of him. Hell, go after Matt McMahon. He beat Cal and UK this year with a worse roster.

Jmo but Kentucky shouldn’t fire Cal unless they have assurances from a top name, and that’s not because I enjoy Kentucky underachieving. They could absolutely do way worse if they aren’t careful.

Wade is under a show cause until 2025. They aren't hiring him now.

Agree, they aren't firing cal without an assurance from Wright or Drew.

Having the money is one thing, having the guy you want ready to come is another. It's Kentucky basketball. Getting a quality coach should be easy. Cal lost his equity that's for sure.

Cal has said in the past that he’d probably only be here about 10 years, he’s now been here 15.

I know a lot of the donors want him gone but not sure Barnhart will go for it.

I get that it's UK and just making the tournament is not the expectation, but have ya'll ever fired a coach immediately after he made the tournament?
