LSU should be pretty stout on D next year. We should do our part.

But I think the answer is no. Those 2011 LSU/Bama teams would have DESTROYED the 2013 league. We won't see that again. That shite will become legendary to the discerning fan. We are headed to some middle ground I think. I think how teams react to Auburn and A&M will tell the tale.

Offenses this year put up insane, record numbers for the conference. I know it's been building to this point, but it almost seemed to come out of nowhere for some of the teams who didn't do jack last year (Auburn, Mizzou).

Just as a style and brand of football, I can honestly say I do not enjoy the video game like scoring that happened at times this year. Not just when Bama was allowing it to happen (A&M, Auburn to an extend, and Oklahoma) but even when I watched other SEC games this year there were sometimes effortless TDs.

I much prefer the nasty defenses dominating like LSU 2011 or Bama 2011, and I hope we can at least get back closer to the middle (scores of 23-17 rather than 43-37).

Do you think offense this year was merely a combination of experienced QBs and young defenses, or should we expect Big 12 offensive numbers for the next 5 years?

Until the 3-4 defenses of the league can actually pressure a qb with 3 people, nothing will change.

And as another poster mentioned, refs never call holding anymore.

And on reffing, with all the option stuff and mobile qb's, there are mixed messages being sent to the defenders. If qb is the ball carrier, knock the crap out of him. If he spikes or throws away or dips quickly out of bounds, or he's faking like he has the ball but he's already handed it off.... and you lay a finger on him, it's 15 yards and you could be tossed out of the game.

I think if the offenses continue with this trend of speed and more speed verses size that defenses will have to match with speed sort of what LSU had when they played Oregon. You have to have fast and quick players to curb these offenses, not big brutes.
