Will the Saban Era be the End of Great Defenses?

So many teams keep leaning more and more toward high powered offenses and coaches that reflect that. From the implementations of HUNH offenses, Spread schemes, and mobile QBs... along with rules, penalties, etc all favoring offenses... it seems like defenses are having a hard time keeping up.
Outside of Kirby Smart... (and Muschamp ) I can't think of many head coaches being hired for their defensive coaching abilities.
Even Saban has had to alter his approach to the game on the offensive side of the ball to stay competitive.
It's kind of sad if you grew up being a fan of the defensive side of the ball.

Michigan State and Michigan and Stanford and Ohio State are still playing football aren't they?
And they were all Top 10 in total defense this year.

If you're a Bama fan you've always been a fan of a team that focuses on defense, field position, and running the ball, for the most part.
I am a fan of defense and running the ball. Leave that other bullshite in Texas and the Big 12.

By the very nature of how rankings work, someone has to be in the top 10. That literally says nothing about the quality of the defenses involved. If the lowest YPG surrendered was 1000 YPG, the team that gives up 1000 YPG would have the number 1 defense in that category.

Looking back all the way since 2008, it is almost a carbon copy each year. The #1 team has around 220-260 ypg allowed, and the #10 has 290-310 ypg allowed each and every year.
The only outlier: 2011 Alabama at 184 ypg.

I don't think we needed you to explain this one to us Vandy.

Y'all didn't, but that very confused and possibly self-loathing B1G fan apparently did.

I see Vanderbilt becoming the next great defensive team

I like where we're going. I'm with the OP -- I love watching a stifling defense over a high-powered offense. Just how my parents raised me. When your dad gets more excited about your team stuffing a run than about your team running for a first down, it starts to shape your preferences. That's why I'm actually pretty happy with Coach Mason despite the fact that he hasn't replicated Franklin's success...yet.

sec offenses suck arse with the exception of ole miss, beat me down for it but it's absolutely true
especially the fact that the sec is shite this year and will probably get wrecked in the bowl games again
