Did LSU call Pete Golding for advice? Who moves him off the edge?? Like dropping Will Anderson into coverage.
Their DC is ILB Coach so he greedily took the best player on the defense- and ruined their pass rush lmfao. Watching #4 get absolutely PANCAKED was fun.

I'm going to admit, I didn't even realize their coaching staff had done this during the offseason.
Moving him from DE to OLB is at least defensible, like say Jadeveon Clowney in the NFL. But moving him INSIDE?? Thats wildly stupid.

It's that balance between developing the player and doing what's best for the team.

I get that and i agree that the main job of the coach is to do what is best for the team. But how is it best for the team to take your best pass rusher out of the flow to the ball?

Ask Malik Jefferson how that worked out for him. Texas practically ruined his potential because some fricking coach thought he knew best....took him away from his strengths.
I like Perkins as a player...on the edge.

It isn't, that's a complete failure on the coaching staff's part.

Especially in a game where you know your defensive backs are overmatched vs a great receiving group and quarterback.

My thought, too. When pressure was applied the FSU QB struggled. If I am the coach I am having Perkins coming in on the QB every time he drops back for a pass.

I seriously doubt he transfers

It's kind of odd; with the coachspeak after the game, you almost get the impression that Perkins was at MLB because he wanted to be there, and they placated him with that. Sorta like with an elite corner who wants to play WR too, you let him do that to keep him on the team.

I never got the sense Perkins had an attitude like that, before this. And even to the untrained eye, he's clearly much more impactful rushing off the edge, than he is dropping into coverage and mirroring the QB. If he was purely spying, he didn't do that well.

I agree they need to rush him from the edge on passing downs.

Problem is lsu fans overrated him. He is 220 lbs so clearly can’t play the edge on all 3 downs.

Comparing him to Anderson is an insult to Anderson.

That's why you move him around. You don't just have to bring pressure off the edge. What you don't do is drop him into coverage on 27 of 35 passing downs.

So he graded dead last out of 19 players that played defense. That’s pretty unbelievable for the supposed projected DPOY in the SEC. Doubt that one has ever been done before.

Impressive
