No trolling here. I hate that shite. It's an honest question given that he has grown close to him.

Due to the torches and pitchforks I realize my title and post were poorly worded. In hindsight maybe it should have been "Will Sid be extra motivation for Les Miles and LSU". My apologies to any that were offended. That was not my intent.

I think I get what you're saying, but I hate the term "using" him as motivation. I think Miles hasn't done anything to draw attention to the situation, but it is what it is. I imagine, sure, he wants our guys to fight like hell and there's nothing wrong with pointing out what real adversity is...and there's no better example than a kid like Sid that faces adversity head on and fights like hell thru it.

Miles won't have to say a word.... a picture of Sid by the door will be all that is needed....It's the one thing that will bring the best out of people; the image of one child less fortunate for players to realize the gift they have been given and to use that gift to their utmost ability...

It should probably motivate both teams. This kid is hoping to live a week so he can see this game. Granted he wants LSU to win, but its this one game he is hoping to live long enough to see.

Pretty sure Sabs can use it to if he so chooses

Using was a bad choice of words. Sid's situation could be an example to all of us to look at life being bigger than a football game. Both fanbases could look at that.

which is why I said "If he so chooses"

The kid lives in Alabama and It is a perfect opportunity for LSU and bama to come toether and make this a special day for Sid.

Why? Because I asked an honest question. I live in Alabama so I follow the kid's story. I wasn't trolling, as I said I can't stand the troll threads. I was asking an honest question.

The players know about Sid obviously and yeah they may have Sid on their mind, and yeah you may see "SID" written across wrist and ankle tape, but I don't think Miles will do that. Mainly bc he is going to pass away, and you don't want that to mentally affect them throughout the season. I don't want that too sound harsh even though it does. If the players wanted to visit Sid, I'm sure he would allow that to the fullest extent, however I don't think he will use Sid's story in such a way.

You made it sound like Les had befriended Sid to motivate his team. Your post afterwards sounded better. The ban emoji isn't taken seriously .

That certainly wasn't my intent. I should have worded the thread title differently. I like Les and he's a really good guy. I think it's interesting that Sid is an Alabama kid that is a huge LSU fan and Les has done a lot for him as far as bringing him to games and making him feel part of the team. That is all I meant by starting the thread.

I hope sid gets to see LSU blow Alabama out by the largest margin of victory in the series history.

As has already been said, he won't have to bring it up. The LSU guys know the story. When presented with a chance to give a struggling person, especially a child, happiness, most human beings will do their part to help. When you can do that just by doing your job, you can certainly be a bit more motivated to do your job well. I just hope Sid can make it to see that game and to see a win. Of course, I wish he could live even longer, but the news does not look good.

Of course, there is probably some young Alabama fan in a similar situation who just isn't getting the publicity Sid is. I fricking hate when kids have to deal with this shite.

I would hope nobody "uses" a dying kid as motivation, especially if the kid is a huge fan of one of the teams. It seems cheap, but over and beyond that, it says something unsettling about humanity no matter what. Do we really need a world where one team is playing to break a dying kid's heart and the other team risks "failing" the kid if they lose, thereby breaking his heart? If the kid's struggle motivates you personally, that's great. But assigning meaning to it in terms of motivating teams to win risks uncovering some rather dangerous connotations.

The whole idea of using him in that way -- and that includes the passive-aggressive stuff like putting up a picture to remind players the stakes of losing/winning the game -- just leaves an extremely unpleasant taste in my mouth.

He apparently hasn't done anything to motivate them for the last few years either.
