they're mpeg 4 files. it probably depends upon the age of your equipment (guessing). A dual layer probably. Definitely too big for DVD. Would definitely go on a Blu-ray.

If you have to reformat them they're big. Can't say exactly how big since I view them on my computer, or from my computer to the TV (HDMI)

I guess it's a mute point now. Everything is about archiving in a cloud and streaming out of there these days ... on demand.

Good gosh. I remember in 1967 when my family got our first color TV and we thought that was the bomb. Hell, there were shows that were not even in color at the time.

We are living in incredible times. Heads-up holographic displays are right around the corner. Bandwidth pipes are getting smaller and larger at the same time. Compression technology is booming. It's just amazing.

you've been around long enough evidently to appreciate the rate of change and how it's accelerating..... both good and bad.

I remember the first digital SLR's. Came in 3 and 6 megapixel, $8000 and approximately $20,000. Nikons latest digital camera is 36.3 megapixel at 5 FPS and has an ISO of 64- 12,800. Can you imagine trying to load these images and work with them in Photoshop with a computer from say 10 to 15 years ago. Impossible. But a lot of people are still driving around in automobiles that old or older.

Remote control birth control. Still trying to wrap my brain around that one

There are always ways that I cannot mention on this site involving "first row" sports and a European web feed but of course I would not recommend it because watching blacked out sports programs on your computer would be "wrong"

It's horrible to think about the people that are trying to watch live, free streaming video of sporting events at the highest resolution. They keep giving you the excuse that they're tired of having their testicles squeezed by cable and dish companies.

I just don't understand it.

People still seem to be a bit confused about this...

Like other ESPN channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU), you will be able to stream live SEC Network games digitally on WatchESPN, but only if you're already getting the SEC Network on your TV by subscribing to a provider that offers it AND purchasing whatever tier necessary for that channel. In other words, you won't have digital access without cable access.

The good news is if you live in an SEC state, getting the Network will NOT require adding an extra sports tier to your cable package. It will be on a low level of cable. Not the very lowest, but the next rung or two up from that.

According to the newly created SEC Network website you will be able to stream games with the right credentials. I heard that Comcast was closing in on a deal to add the SEC Network. Does anybody know if that would also include Time Warner since they are merging?

No, it does not. The merger will probably take another year to even be approved by the government, and approval isn't a total certainty. A separate deal will have to be made with Time Warner to get the SEC Network before then.

Same applies to DirecTV where the merger with AT&T U-verse is concerned. But the problem is not just in waiting on congressional approval.

The real problem is with the economics of the buyouts and mergers themselves and existing deals already in place with the larger entities.

In the case of DirecTV and U-verse it doesn't make sense for either party for DirecTV to do a deal with ESPN prior to the merger.

I'm not familier enough with the intricacies of the TW/Comcast deal to speculate but I can only imagine similar issues would exist.

ESPN sells the package based upon a set number of subscribers per carrier. For the sake of simplicity let's say $1.00 per household. It's a graduated scale that is different for each carrier.

DirecTV would pay a higher rate as a stand alone carrier which would add to the buyout cost by U-verse, than U-verse would pay ESPN for the additional households once they absorb DirecTV.

Thanks that cleared things up for me. I usually get rid of cable (Time Warner) after football season so it doesn't make sense to me to bring it back for the up coming season unless they get the SEC Network before then. I don't see the point when I already have the local channels, can stream ESPN3 through my TV, and I am a season ticket holder.
