I don't think you understand just how truly awful our defenses have been recently.
We aren't expecting a top 10 defense, but even a top-50 unit will have us consistently competing for the West with our offense.

CHavis struggles have been the past three years as the talent dropped off. Chavis did a really good job in 2010 and 2011 but since then LSU has lost 6 games on the opponents last drive of the game. This came with numerous third and fourth down conversions.
Chavis is very good, but his defense isn't very aggressive and relies heavily on talent. It's been a love/hate relationship and I think LSU can do better but not sure I have faith in them doing so.

I'm not gonna knock some of Chief's shortcomings, he did well, continued the fine work that his predecessors did at LSU.
The Aggie D is so pitiful and so far removed from the Wrecking Crew days..that the forthcoming results should be immediate..yet incremental and still not elite.
And no guarantee of ATM being anything further than what already are..middle-of-the-road program in the SEC-West.
