NCAA can't suspend but they can give you their ruling on whether they think he should be, which is what Auburn could have been waiting for.....
Yes, same by-laws applied, entirely different scenario....not even close to being similar

They were ruled ineligible immediately and the investigation took a couple of weeks. Whereas Cam was not ruled ineligible immediately and only a day was taken to determine his eligibility. The time frame and actions were completely different from what the NCAA and schools normally take.
This.
Cecil came out and admitted to shopping Cam to Mississippi State, with Cam having no knowledge of his actions.
This statement was released during the regular season.
Auburn waits until after its last game against Alabama, at which point, Auburn ruled Cameron Newton ineligible, and promptly filing with the NCAA to regain his eligibility.
Then, further, the NCAA takes hours, not days, not week... to decide that Cam and Auburn had done nothing wrong and ruled him eligible to play in the SEC Championship game.
Auburn sandbagged, and then called the NCAA's bluff and it worked.

Jesus h Christ...
NCAA says he is eligible.....they know the facts.
Do you really think they would risk making a biased decision now, ignoring the facts, risking the possibility that AU could win out and win it all? Everyone is saying they did this to assure he DID play due to the money at stake. But if they fricked up this ruling and end up having to come back and say they did, that would he bad for them, don't you think?

yea... that 12 hour decision really gives the perception of a thorough investigation of ALL the facts surrounding this case.

Don't worry, Auburn is going to get hammered over this.

You know they've known about this since Jan right?
CreoleAubie,
Keep that reasonable logic out of here. It has no place on the Rant. Everyone on here has a Masters in law and specializes in NCAA cases.

Then why didn't Auburn abide by the following rule?
quote:
14.11.1 Obligation of Member Institution to Withhold Student-Athlete from Competition. If a student-athlete is ineligible under the provisions of the constitution, bylaws or other regulations of the Association, the institution shall be obligated to apply immediately the applicable rule and to withhold the student-athlete from all intercollegiate competition. The institution may appeal to the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement for restoration of the student-athlete¡¦s eligibility as provided in Bylaw 14.12 if it concludes that the circumstances warrant restoration.

Because AU investigated and determined under the NCAA's rules. What is hard to understand about this.

No they didn't.
If Auburn knew about this in January, Cam would have been declared ineligible in January, not this week.

Ok, so from January until Cecil admitted to shopping Cam, Auburn had investigated and found no reason to suspend Cam Newton's eligibility.
I can buy this, the whole feigning ignorance.
But when Cecil came out and admitted he shopped Cam, and there may be some question as to Cam's eligibility. Why did Auburn wait until the close of the regular season to suspend Cam's eligibility?
Why not immediately rule Cam Newton ineligible and then appeal the eligibility to the NCAA (who, might I add, had no problem making a ruling in a day)? Why, after Cecil admmitted shopping Cam to Mississippi State, did Auburn wait?
Just seems like the timing is suspiciously off.

Exactly, and then applied to have him reinstated before the season actually began. Auburn conducted no investigation, other than ask Cam and Cecil if they did anything. They took Cecil's word and ended up with egg on their face with that. Had Auburn actually investigated, they'd have known Cecil had lied. It didn't exactly take alot to break him, one interview.
