Early turnovers killed us, pretty much dug ourselves in a huge hole early and could never climb out. LSU was the better team that night.

Just watched the replay last night, Lsu was about to go up 28-0 in the beginning of the second quarter before they fumbled. How did this happen? Obviously Auburn's defense is partly to blame, but Marshall was having a lot of trouble simply completing a pass.

I've seen a lot of Auburn fans claim that they would have won if the game had been played later in the season. I just don't by that. It was a vicious blowout and Lsu was in complete control on offense and defense for the entire game.

Better question, why did LSU get embarrassed by 3 teams that Auburn defeated?

Better question, why do you hide your team affiliation?

Auburn beats lsu in 2012 if their punt returner doesn't fumble.

Auburn beats lsu in 2013 if their punter doesn't fumble.

Auburn beats LSU in 2014 if _______________________.

It was our first road game and Nick was still learning the system. They had 2 long runs and a short field to work with...recipe for disaster. You cannot play like crap in DV and expect to compete.

Valid points but to be clear, LSU did not play their best game of the season that night. As you mentioned the D was sporadic, turnovers, etc. Auburn and LSU were nearly even, talent-wise, as far as I'm concerned, aside from LSU's two starting wide-outs. Either team could have won. The fact is, LSU's defense was much better at season's end than it was that week.

embarrassed? LSU lost to UGA in a back and forth game decided in the final minute. LSU lost to Ole Miss on a game winning field goal in the final seconds. Auburn needed a miracle to beat UGA and beat Ole Miss by 8. Auburn also needed a miracle to beat Alabama. Auburn very easily could have won fewer than 9 games last year. They just had a season where they caught the breaks you sometimes need to make a national title game. LSU didn't.

i'm not trying to say it was lucky or that auburn didn't earn the win, but it was certainly extremely unexpected and miraculous the way it ended. i mean i'm not going to pretend i didn't enjoy the hell out of the ending either

Simple reply to OP:

Chavis went in dry on that Malzahn arse. Whereas Alabama fails because of the bigger, more physical players stomping and mauling teams, LSU is blitzing and hammering teams with speed. Chavis has always been a fan of the seek and destroy defense, and when he executes it right, it's something to watch.

Even though I hate the shite out of LSU, since Chief came there I can only marvel at a few of the defenses he's fielded.

LSU was in control in an adverse, rain environment, but it was a game in which the AU team shaped their identity. The year before, they would have simply collapsed, but the guys made the decision at halftime that they would slug it out till the end. I admit that the game was really never in doubt (early mistakes are hard to overcome), but I was proud that the team never gave up. I believe it was a big step in the team buying into the coaches message, that allowed the next step at TAMU. The team decided in the rain down there at Tiger Stadium that they would never, ever give up. Fast forward to UGA & UAT....

I can buy that. I'm not sure why this post received so many down-votes.

Auburn grew a lot as the year went on, undoubtedly this was one of those games where they showed improvement (even if they didn't come close to winning).
