Early to mid 2000s the Big 12 South was the toughest division in college football. The SEC West was an easier schedule.

Saban lost to TAMU at Bama. I wouldn't consider him a dumbass.

Losing to a superior coach ain't nothing to be ashamed of.

They chose to pay Fulmer in cash instead of Krispy Kreme gift certificates.

This is key. If the REC had come up with a hijacked truckload of Krispy Kremes, Phil's wrath would have been appeased.

Fran was so friggin conservative. We lost so many games on poor play calling.

Fran in a microcosm: A&M vs OU 2006. Down 17-10 and had the ball TWICE inside the 15 during the final 7 minutes. 4 down territory. each time. Instead of sending our fat arse RB up the middle It went for the FG twice! Game ended 17-16.

Watch starting at the 2:02 mark

That game was so tough to watch. Didn't we lead the country in rushing that year?

Since '81, you have had a shite ton more than a "few"

Before Saban and outside of Stallings and Fran's one year, it was like watching a real life train wreck in slow motion

He was one of the hottest coaches at the time.

Lol Fran.

Such an abortion. Took five years to recover.

Still, he remains a constant reminder that TAMU is a better job than Bama.

While Fran is a horrible coach, his case reminds us that these days Bama is a stepping stone job while A&M is a destination job

The stepping stone jobs (New Mexico, TCU, Bama for Fran) are always easier to win at than the destination jobs (A&M)

The year was 2002.
On one sideline was The Great Man himself, The Tiny Screamer, The Lying Lilliputian, in his pre-Zeus days.
On the other sideline hapless Dennis Franchione.
The setting; Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.
LSU was defending SEC Champions and would be BCS champions the next year.
Bama, not so much.
Final score
Bama/Franchione 31.
LSU/Saban 0.

We had 10 wins or more in 1986, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1999, 2002, and 2005. We had the horses to win it all in 1986, 1989, and 1994 but came up just short.
