First blow up the current conferences. Create six 10 team conferences who play round robins. The tie breakers and cross division games screw up letting the conference champions in. This would allow you to eliminate the conference championship games and replace them with a field of 8 (6 conference champions, plus 2 at large).

It means you won the regular season for that conference

'Winning the season' doesn't actually have any meaning.

That qualifies you to compete for the national championship via playoffs.

Again, literally the way it works in every other sport.

I don't think you're paying very close attention. A conference championship doesn't qualify anyone for the playoffs. That's my main beef with this system, it's subjective while trying to come off as objective.

Also, regular season basketball conference championships do not automatically qualify a team for the playoffs, it's the tournament championships that come with the automatic qualifiers.

its dumb because some teams can benefit from not playing in the game.

in what world does that make sense?

Here's the thing, there will come a year when the SEC gets shut out of the playoffs - maybe by having a 2-loss champion "that could beat any other conference champion!!1!"

Then there will be outrage, wailing and gnashing of teeth until conference champions get auto bids.

It's as predictable as an eclipse.

Because the BCS was an unmitigated disaster

That really answers my question in no way because the BCS relied on opinion polls.

You might actually see that this year, just not with the SEC. Say the favorites win out this weekend and both OSU and the B1G champ are selected, at the expense of a 1-loss Washington...the PAC-12 will raise hell and probably be joined in their dissent by the Big 12...

Playoff with all the conference champions. It's the only objective system. I'm sick of hearing the term better team from the committee. When those better teams lost games that matter and others didnt. There's your drama. There's why the regular season still matters. There's your fairness. Added benefit is better ooc games on the schedule because of the minimal penalty for losing.

Yep...

okay, first, not just 'no', but frick you.

Here is a game that has been wildly popular for 100 years, and you want to go and just blow it up and ruin it for everyone else.

Second, frick you on general principle.

I thought we were debating the value of an 8-team playoff with the conference champs getting an automatic bid.

I'm not positive Bama was the better team. They were awarded the championship because they won the game but if that game was played in a series I think at best Bama is 50/50
