I agree. Many Vol fans think they are though.

Imo we only have one rival and that is Bama.

Well this just through the whole thing in the crapper....

Would you take a poll of Vol fans on your board, and ask them who their rival is? Then ask them to rank the Top 3 teams in order that they like to beat.

Y'all can't have Bama as a rival, Bama has Auburn, and that's an in-state thing that's not going to be overcome. If we poll their fanbases, I can guarantee you that 90+% of Auburn and Alabama fans will say that the other one is their rival.

Plus, this would throw Vandy out in the dark w/o a rival. That might open up Mizzou to have a rivalry with them, but that's only if Bama pulls a UGA and agrees to allow for more rivals. We might need a team vote on that though.

I do feel as if the USCe-Mizzou game is becoming a "microwave rivalry" of sorts. Mainly because the cocks have experienced great success in the W-L column over the past couple of years (with little to show for it) and they're kinda pissed we came in and crashed the party.

If you poll Tennessee fans 90%+ would consider Bama to be a bigger rivalry than Vandy.

A rival is that 1 team that you would say is the primary adversary

And we have that. All schools do.

quote:

Once you start saying this team, and that team and the other team are our rivals, they very definition of a rivalry really comes into question

Not really. You are allowed to have more than 1 rival. And would you disagree that we are in the top 2 rivals of the 4 teams I listed?

quote:

If you like beating everyone, you can't say that everyone is your rival

You might not get it because you aren't coming from this side of it, but GT, UF, and AU are all without a doubt our rivals. There is no cutoff point.

quote:

While true in the sense that UGA would be my 2nd favorite team for SC to beat, there are Gamecocks on this site who will say, Tenn is their #2, or UNC is their #2, or even UF

Great, that's all personal opinion that doesn't mean anything. USC, the school, the athletic program...has UGA as its second biggest rival.

quote:

If you ordered WG list of rivals and compared it to a dozon other dogs on this site, it would probably look different.

I have for a long, long, LONG time crusaded on this topic and don't have the time to do it now, but that quote is 100% irrelevant. Someone in Rome probably hates UT the most. Likewise someone in Augusta for USC, Columbus for AU, Valdosta for UF, etc. None of that matters one iota. UGA, the actual school, has a #1 rival and its Georgia tech. Period. It doesn't matter what Matt in macon or sally in savannah thinks about the issue, their personal opinion doesn't matter. Neither does mine! Tech is our biggest rival, and always has been.

quote:

My point is, there is a rival for each team, then there are teams that you enjoy it when your team beats, probably even more so than when your team beats someone like Wofford or Missouri.

I see the point you're making, I really do. And I agree to an extent. But like I said, we're just unique. Just because UF and AU aren't our BIGGEST rivals, doesn't mean they aren't rivals.

we had a rival then Tulane went brain dead and gave up on athletics for 50 years. Now we are stuck with a cult of pig frekers (a&m) and pigs (arky) begging to be our rivals.

It's certainly a giant dick measuring contest around these parts, but IRL it's nothing to take note of.

I don't even think Spurrier has ever even taken his usual light hearted jabs at Missouri.

It's pretty meh, but I would like to be the ones to kill the home win streak though.

It's not, I know on my list of teams I like SC to beat, and I believe on most Gamecocks, Mizzou isn't even in the Top 5. I enjoyed beating UNC more than Mizzou last year, mainly b/c of my location. Mizz and USC will never be rivals, the geography won't allow it. Just like Ark and SC were never rivals.

I'm with you. What would CFB be like without Ohio St/Michigan
USC/Notre Dame
Texas/Oklahoma
Alabama/Auburn
Georgia/Florida

and many others? It makes watching the game more interesting and gives you the cahnce to trash talk for a year...

Texas A&M had a nice rivalry with LSU in the 90's, but A&M was winning year after year after year after year after year, etc., LSC quit the rivalry.

So it wasn't a rivalry prior to the 90s?
