Being Southern and being from Texas are two entirely different things. Anyone can be from Texas no matter where you were born. You have to have spent your childhood in the South to be southern. Where you were born is not the point it is where you were raised. But Texas is a culture you can embrace as an adult as long as you claim Texas as home. They have a saying: I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as quick as I could.

Exactly my point. Gus was actually born and raised in the South. The idea that his Southern accent is fake is ridiculous.
