Alabama motivation. (It worked last time)

The series was 7-4-1 AU when the IB was suspended. When the series was resumed, AU was 6-5 in IB before Bryant took over. That's 13-9-1 in favor of AU. Truth hurts, dwi.
Ignorance it is...
Look at the two programs between 1907 and 1948 and get back to me. And for that matter the games immediately prior to the series hiatus and immediately following the resumption. Hell, the first game after the series was renewed was a 55-0 Alabama win.

LSU and Alabama don't reside in the same state.
"Lil Bro" status denied.

Also, what's the definition of "lil bro"?
Do you have a little brother in real life? If so, it's easy to explain.
Which school actually acts like a little brother? Which school constantly measures himself in terms of the other? Which school wants nothing more than to beat the other, and determines his self worth based on that? Which school is always out to "get" the other, as in "I'm telling mom/the NCAA!"

Why is Auburn considered "Lil Bro"?
Because they're not the top Tiger team in the SEC.

I've heard mixed opinions of the definition on this board. It seems the consensus is that they must reside in the same state.
eta - and yes I have 2 lil bros.

I think that's probably correct. I guess an OOS team that you have a huge series lead on would be better defined by "whipping boy".

To be fair, the suspended series saved Auburn quite a bit. During that stretch (1908 - 1947) Alabama had a .767 winning %; Auburn was .585. The 20s especially would have likely seen a massive shift in the series towards Alabama, and the 40s prior to renewal would have been just as bad for Auburn. The 30 might have seen a close to even stretch, but even then probably not.

coming from an Alabama fan, no offense taken.

I would say most Aubies consider bama to be a step or tier beneath us as a university.
For football only, the only time AU was ever lil bro was during Bryants tenure when we played all of the iron bowls at legion field and allowed bama a 30+ year home field advantage.
That ended over 30 years ago when Pat Dye arrived. Bama fans still need it to hang onto as it is sorta all they have, so I'm ok with them using it to feel better about themselves.

We can't have "national title or bust" aspirations and be single minded about one program. Get your stories straight.

Auburn fans are different. Auburn fans usually have a direct connection to the school, whereas Alabama fans don't necessarily have blood ties or lambskin degrees. Auburn fans attended school there, or their relatives did, or they have a fondness for the underdog.
