Why has the east division been so much worse than the West recently

Last year Sagarin ranked the SEC East Division as the worst major conference division. Not sure how he could rate the SEC East or even a HS division as worse than the Big 10 West but they're his rankings not mine. His ratings were
1. Sec West
2. PAC North
3. Big 12
4. Pac south
5. Big 10 East
6. ACC Coastal
7. ACC Atlantic
8. Big 10 West
9. Sec East

The last 2 years the division has gone 5-7 vs the ACC. (1-7 in late season rivalry games.)

Two reasons:

1. Saban has stayed
2. Meyer left

From there, the standards for the two divisions have been drastically askew. When Meyer was at UF, you had to fricking dog fight to win the division over them. Same has been true for Saban at Bama and the west. The week to week competition is greater in the west than the east because the best team in the west is better then the best team in the east which raises the required quality of teams and their preparation of they want to beat said best team

ETA: the east hasn't had that one all star coach since Meyer pussed out. Spurrier tried with USCe but everyone knew he was too old to sustain (and though he'd never admit it, he knew it too). Richt was a very good but not great coach. Pinkel was just a poor mans version of richt. Tennessee... Lol.

What an incredibly false sense of hope that provided.

Florida and Tennessee have been below their standards.

The two worst teams of modern SEC football, Kentucky and Vandy, both reside in the East.

South Carolina went into a tailspin after several really good years under Spurrier.

I was just thinking of the late season rivalry games. I guess I wasn't thinking of any other OOC games they may play vs the ACC.

That's not true. Georgia alone is 3-1. South Carolina beat UNC.

Hell, even in rivalry games, SC had beaten Clemson five years in a row until the last two.

Better recruiting and coaching in the West. Just off the top of my head, the best West teams have generally had top 5 recruiting classes while the best East teams have had less than top 5 recruiting classes. My hope is that this changes over time now that Smart is at UGA. We have lost a number of key instate recruits over the years to teams in the West.

What other games have the played? I'll specify regular season because I'm too lazy to research bowl results.

You aren't even doing your own research

But I think the reasoning for those better recruiting classes is a snowball effect that stems from the weekly competition. The perception of the superior competition in the west nets them a higher level of quality recruits more regularly than teams on the east. Not to mention that every team in the east has undergone a head coaching change sometime in the past 5 years. Nobody in the west has done that except ole miss

I switched it to 3-7. I researched and Miami SCar was the only bowl game.

Georgia beat Clemson in the 2014 regular season, Louisville in a 2014 bowl game, and Georgia Tech in 2015.

Last year

The East was down.

The previous two seasons before that were pretty darn good, especially 2013. People say Mizzou won it when the East was down, but it was like the 3rd best division those 2 years.

But last year was awful. Truly down.

I agree about 2013 East. Two top 5 teams.
