Two reasons why A&M will never have men's soccer:
1.Too emotional. Fans could not take the excitement of watching grown men run around like fire ants, flop on the ground when someone runs within 2 feet of them and after two hours of this excitement, have everyone line up and kick the ball towards the goal in anticipation of a 1-0 win. No way could we handle that type of excitement.
2. Texans don't allow communists sports to be played at public universities.

Then I believe that would make it a club team.

We play football, the ACC and Pac 12 play men's soccer. I hope it never becomes an official SEC sport. It should only be played by boys until they reach the age of 10.

Title 9
That's the only reason.
True, and that reason is a complete abomination and has been consistently misapplied across the NCAA.

Title IX needs to be either abolished or heavily modified and Soccer is a prime example. How many thousands of guys don't get a chance at a soccer scholarship because of Title iX? There is no reason the sport couldn't have a similar following to baseball over time, even more in some areas. A&M already has a fantastic women's soccer facility so they would basically just need a locker room for the men. The problem is you have to create yet another women's sport because of the imbalance from football.
If you look at states like Texas and California with large Hispanic populations that LOVE soccer they are basically just ignored. There are a lot of poor kids from South San Antonio that would benefit from having a dream of getting college paid for by playing soccer. It's no different than how football and basketball provides a way out for so many African American kids.

USC and UK already have soccer. If the other schools added it, they could also add lacrosse, which on the women's side seems to be a popular sport. UF and Vandy already have lacrosse so they'd have to pick up something else. Most logical for Vandy is softball as they're the only school without it. UF bowling, rowing, equestrian or something as they already have most all of the other major women's sports.

It's a combination of Title IX (which requires substantially equal number of schollys between men's and women's sports) and the NCAA (which, due to football having so many schollys, requires that a member institution sponsor two more women's sports than men's; the rule actually got its start in the SEC and then went nationwide).

MSU has 13 sports and I'm fine with that. Do not want men's soccer or lacrosse.
If they want to add women's beach volleyball I'm all for it.

Title IX, would have to add women's sport to compensate.

Also why would anyone assume that athletic departments would want to add another money pit? There are already far too many money losing sports that the athletic departments have to support, so why would they want to add another.
There is no way that soccer could even come close to turning a profit in the SEC.

That's pretty funny given that world soccer functions as an international free market while the NFL functions like a Stalinist collective.
You sir, are an idiot.

If true, it's too bad about Title 9 providing an obstacle to SEC men's soccer.
I think it would be a very competitive league. Parts of the South have relatively strong soccer pedigree (FL, LA, KY), at least when I was playing select in the 90s.
As previously mentioned, St Louis and KC produce D1 quality soccer players by the ton. Heck, it might be the only men's sport outside of basketball that MU could win a championship. As a Tiger alum, I'm all for this.
Side note: Surprised there are this many soccer fans on the Rant.
