1 mile north of I65 before it runs into I 10 is the onetime meth capital of the world.

Most of the old timers are now dead.
Urban renewal.

If you get a chance you should plan a tour of .Bellingraph Gardens in the spring.
Just south of Mobile like going to Dalphin Island. It would be worth the trip.

Mobile is the "Little Easy." Older than New Orleans, Mobile didn't do as good a job preserving our downtown and riverfront historic district.
Back in the 60s, I believe, we bulldozed all of the historic riverfront to build Water Street. Stupid. We've been plagued by poor leadership, though the mayor they have now is pretty sharp.
Still, several pockets of old Mobile remain. There has been quite a bit of renovation in the last few years.
LODA entertainment district is growing. Things are getting better! The current administration has made Mobile more business friendly. We got a cruise ship back, etc.
Mobile is a cool, beautiful city, with areas of urban decay; just like every other city.

We love the Saints and the Tide (there are quite a few LSU fans)!

We did have the first Mardi Gras in North America.

The demographiic situation is dooming Mobile. It's an old city with a neglected
infrastructure and a declining tax base. I'm stuck here for a few more years .
Some cool neighborhoods but a high crime rate means white flight.

Across the bay, Fairhope is the best city in Alabama.

Fairhope is very nice, Magnolia Springs, etc...all nice. If we stay in the area it will
be on the other side of the bay. Really thinking about Oxford MS or another college town
though.

The Deltaland should be paved over. I've traveled through it hundreds of times and all I've seen is crap. Even cotton talks badly about that part of the state.
