Why do we take Oklahoma seriously?

Florida and LSU flaunt their 3 rings in that time, UGA and Florida have 2 in that time, trophies glinting like misplaced molars in the past four decades. Even Tennessee clutches a dusty trophy and flirts with surpassing their mere presence in everyone’s rear view mirror. Yet, Oklahoma holds aloft their ONE championship, a lone crow cawing defiance against the relentless sunset.
The whispers of a bygone Switzer dynasty linger, like cobwebs in the rafters of a once-grand stadium. Perhaps that's the key to the Sooners' curious blue blood status - a haunting echo of past glories, clinging desperately to relevance.
But this is an “Emperor’s New Clothes” situation. It’s all a lie. Undeserved, my friends. Undeserved. They know it, we know it, but we don’t know why.
Thoughts?

Let’s not be like Bama and assume National Championships are the only metric for success. They’ve still been to the NC game and playoffs multiple times over that time span and are arguably the second best program in college football history. Sure, they only have one NC in that time frame but they’re still been really good.

So what you're saying they'll be the new Tennessee.

Why don't you go ahead and retitle this thread, "History is Hard."

Yeah, half their national championships were before desegregation. Woooo. History!

Quit pretending like you know anything about molars

I've never heard of a "misplaced molar", and I doubt OP has a complete set himself.

Oklahoma has only won one national title in the last 25 seasons. That is true.
But they've at least been in the neighborhood a bunch. They made and lost the BCS championship in 2003, 2004 and 2008. They made the playoffs in the 4 team era in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
They haven't really disappeared from relevance for long stretches like some teams have (looking at you Tennessee). They just haven't been able to get over the hump.

Because not only did we win one we have played for 5-7 including playoffs Injuries had a role in 2008 for us losing. Why does OU live rent free in LSU small pea size brains ?
Don’t worry you will find out this yea Ron your home field !

Oklahoma is 67-24-5 against my Tigers, so I guess that's a pretty damn good reason to take them seriously.

Who takes them seriously? No one I know.

Among all teams, the Oklahoma Sooners stand alone as the only team to have secured victories in each of the current New Year’s Six bowls. These prestigious bowls include:
Orange Bowl: Oklahoma has won this bowl 20 times.
Sugar Bowl: 8 times.
Fiesta Bowl: 5 times.
Cotton Bowl: 3 times.
Rose Bowl: once.
Peach Bowl: once.

Not as hard as math apparently. You should Google the word "half". Not for the sake of this thread but for overall quality of life purposes.
