Why do Pearl and Calipari struggle so badly to win any games in the tournament?

It's crazy how badly these two seem to choke every year, no?

Pearl is due to poor guard play. Cal is due to one & dones.

Cal is about to be fired.

Pearl is about to get a raise.

Can you name the real basketball blueblood?

Pearl does seem to be extremely bad at developing guards, it's true. Even highly rated 5 stars, just complete arse under his tutelage. Not a recipe for success in March.

Pearl usually does better than this in tournaments. He seemed to be pretty consistent in getting teams to the second weekend at Tennessee and has been solid at Auburn too.

IMO, Calipari has been too reliant on freshmen who haven't fully adjusted to the longer 3pt line. The high school 3pt line is 19' 9". The college 3pt line is 22' 1.75". That is a significant adjustment.

He hasn't made it to second weekend this decade.

It's a well established pattern at this point.

Let's not forget, Cal won a title, and went to final fours in like 5 of his first 7 years at UK.

With that said, the drought since 2015 is way too much for UK fans to bear, particularly with Cal constantly blaming the woes on youth when that is what we recruits.

As Lynx said, we have had a few veterans, but I don't think we are getting the right veterans it seems, but Jay Wright is correct, you need several veterans to go with the freshman to be successful. We just haven't had the right mix in a while.

I am fine with Cal staying, but I do think he needs to fire Antigua and Coleman and bring back Kenny Payne, and admit to the fan base that what he has been doing has not been working as desired, and he's going to make changes.

Sheppard shot 51 percent from three in the regular season. UK was the No. 1 three point shooting team.

He had two five year guys in Reeves and Mitchell. He hasn’t had a top twenty defense in years. Portal guys or frosh defense has been atrocious.

At some point you have to be able to stop the other team.

He needs a defensive guru on staff. Welch was a good hire. He modernized the offense.
Coleman is a good recruiter. Antigua has had his moments. They aren’t the problem. We went 9-16 before them.
Flint and Martin need to go.
Maybe bring in Payne to work with the bigs.

We miss Robic big time.

But Cal has to be willing to listen.

could this be karmic retribution for their past as proven cheaters? and in pearls case being a snitch too? much to consider.

Bu t shouldn't that adjustment have been made by the time of the tournament?

If they are supposed to be contributing and have seen an appreciable amount of minutes in the season, you've been on the floor in games and in practice. If you still aren't comfortable with it or adjusted, take extra time and shoot from the college arc.

But I used to say the same thing about Auburn teams that shot like shite from the charity stripe. Why were they not taking extra time before, during, or after practice, or on their own time, to put in extra work to raise those percentages up.

If that were the case UNCheat would be long gone. Pearl had a fricking picnic and Cal played a guy at Memphis that had been cleared twice by the NCAA. Cal had The same thing happened to him that happened to Coach K at Duke. They both had players that took money and neither coach knew about it. But UMass gets punished and Duke walks.
Compare that to the systematic cheating that went on at North Carolina.

A fair point. Maybe something to do with how fat he's gotten then. It's disgusting.
