Anyone who has watched Alabama on defense this season compared to past seasons would know that there is a very obvious shift in philosophy and play calling, specifically on 3rd down, as compared to prior years. The only difference is a new coordinator.

If the head coach was the defacto coordinator, why would changing them change the way we play defense?

Saban wins by having the more talented team on the field. Real hard to do in the NFL and something he's mastered in the NCAA.

The fact that Will Muschamp is still making 2 million + a year coaching football in the SEC should be considered a huge success. Kirby was just in over his head, needed to go to a smaller program to learn to be a head coach first. Ever think Saban does not want them to be too successful, he knows his coordinators are going to be coaching against him one day, you don't give them everything so they can go out and beat you. Saban is probably pissed at Smart for going to UGA and then taking recruits. He knows everything about Smart and I would not be surprised if he is helping other teams beat UGA because he is like that and for recruiting.

Why do LSU fans look for anything to convince themselves that Nick Saban is not a great coach,

Umm? Who is doing that? I fully acknowledged Saban's greatness in the OP. He is one of the best ever. The discussion is around why his greatness has not extended to his assistant coaches. You look at other legendary coaches like Bill Parcells - there have been a number of amazing coaches that have sprouted from that tree. Saban's assistants just dont carry on his legacy the way Parcells coaches did.

That's all fine and well, but to act like just having the most talented team on the field guarantees victory is silly. It would take all day to go down the list of coaches who recruited really well but routinely lost 2-4 games a year. Alabama NEVER loses more than 2 games a year.

Alabama also NEVER loses to unranked opponents. Alabama is the most consistent program in the last 2 decades, perhaps in the last 50 years. Alabama has not lost a game to an unranked opponent since 2007. Think about that. That's unheard of.

If you think all of that is just because they have really good players then you are just being dense.

So the Broncos didn't have more talent than 80% of the league last year? The Patriots don't have more talent that 80% of the league this year?

I guess we should all load up on the Browns and Jags, because obviously they are just as talented as any other team in the NFL. And we can get great odds on them.

The NFL is most certainly about talent, just like NCAA.

The truth is, the head coach in the NFL doesn't generally have control over his roster (besides maybe Belichick). They also don't get to have 85 guys on a roster.

Come on man, I said SOME. You fricking Gumps think everything about your precious team is perfect and everyone else is shite.

How can you not admit that the only fault Saban seems to have is that he exerts so much control over the program that SOME folks cannot thrive outside of his influence? This is the reason he was not successful in the NFL, he wants complete control and that does not work in that league.

Geez, some of you guys are unbelievable.

Saban is a control freak. It doesnt surprise me at all that many of his disciples fail at leadership.

See: Trent Richardson. He admitted that he was pulled in too many directions and lost focus.

Rolando McClain is also a great example of this. Total F up in Oakland, moves back to T-town and gets under control, goes to Dallas and is better but still a F up.

Yeah, the head coach of the reigning national championship team with the current #1 team in the country has time to help other teams beat his former coordinator?

You all realize this does not bother anyone or the part about some of his players struggling in the nfl.
I could care less what Saban assistants do when they leave alabama. Goes more to show you he is the GOAT.

This just isn't true. Saban openly said numerous times that Kirby called the defense during games.

These are players who would very likely not even made the NFL if they had gone a lot of other programs. So many 5 star players with NFL talent quit, transfer multiple times, or get into trouble and end up going undrafted. You aren't going to get constant adult supervision in the NFL. Saban has done a good job of getting those guys drafted highly, but at some point they need to learn to manage themselves.

My question is why do you decide to make a negative thread about Saban when he is 9-0 and eying his third consecutive SEC title? And it's not even about his failures, but I guess failure by association.

Probably the same reason LSU fans always like to make threads about "Bama busts" or "cheating refs" or "Saban is against 'x' because the game is passing him by".

For a fan base that has "moved on" from Nick Saban, y'all sure manage to keep making a lot of threads trying to attack the periphery of the Alabama football program. But deep down you know, just like everybody else, that you ain't got shite to say about the 4 titles in 7 years or the 6 straight over LSU

It would take a 5 min phone call from Saban. He has already done the scouting, he already knows Smart. Both Bama and Clemson brought in other teams coaching staffs to help them prepare for the Natty. I think Clemson even flew Swag in to see how he was able to beat Bama. It's not like Saban has other hobbies to attend to, not like he was too busy concerning himself with who to vote for in the election.

Look a-hole, I simply answered the question of the thread. Sensitive much?

I would say I see WAY more Bama "fans" bashing everyone else to make themselves feel better. I am sorry that your whole existence is based on a bunch of 18-21 year olds and their performance on the field.

Funny how you take this as a Saban failure, when the damn thread is about his assistant coaches and their challenges (as well as former players).

On a side note, please defend some of the calls that go your way (PP Int that never was, blatant holding on the only TD last week, etc). You will not win that argument.
