Defenseless doesn't matter in the application of the rule on that hit, and the wrapping up does not either.

From that gif it looks like the side of his helmet made contact with Noil's face mask, not the crown
Also looks like his left shoulder might have made contact with Neil first too.

I mean let's be real-- the answer is the same as "why do teams loses scholarships for too much book aid or study help but Bama players drive new Challengers" -- because Bama, we all have just learned to accept it-- if Florida or LSU recruited in the same way Bama and Auburn (to a lesser extent-- the Barn cheats but if they go too far the NCAA actually investigates) do we'd get the Death Penalty-- this isn't even a hypothetical- Florida basically tried a minor version of a Bama style program in the 80s and we had a conference title stripped (a national title as well under Bama criteria).

Apparently Bama doesn't hold and they get every game changing call. See roughing the passer

Some teams just get the home cooking. UA and A&M are two of those.
Tennessee is definitely not one of them.

Defenseless absolutely makes a difference. Noil went from a defenseless player catching a ball to a ball carrier and therefore eligible to be hit.
Harris wasn't a carrier but was in the vicinity of the play. Further the Aggie launched himself leading with his helmet connecting helmet to helmet.
I will allow that the position of the refs factored in to it as well the light speed of the play where Mack hit Speedy.

They showed the rule last night 14. It does in most cases but not in that one. Gary Daniels showed the rule as stated defenseless did not matter in that play.
Because he hit First with the crown of the helmet first to the head it should have been called targeting.
It doesn't affect me and it wouldn't have changed the outcome, but targeting should have been called.
The Harris call was a correct one and different use of the rule and defenseless did come into play.

True, but the following applies
Note 1: "Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball..."
It appeared to me that he was making a routine tackle on the body of Noil, during which their heads also collided.
That being said, i'm surprised targeting was not called

Good addition to the discussion, and there is the judgment part of this. Some may judge it legal and others not.
Which is why even though I would say it was targeting I am not offended it wasn't, and just enjoying the discussion.

As should you if you think it was the top. It was the side. Look at the white stripe. It isn't complicated.

It was a part of the crown of the HELMET, but I get you suggesting it wasn't bama fan.

I wish they would tweek the rule. Adding something to the effect of allowing incidental helmet to helmet contact. Or for it to be targeting, only the helmet is hit.

Agreed, there does need to be some tweaking. Like also when a player lowers himself and the defender was already coming in low to make a legal hit.

First its Chargers, not Challengers. Second, you realize the NCAA slapped Bama with a major violation for players, on their own, going to the book store and getting free books for friends? You realize this? and that Bama self reported it? Bama also received a two year bowl ban and missed out on the SEC Championship because of it. This was in the last decade. Are you not aware of this? Fourth, why the hell did your saintly AD Jeremy Foley allow this to go on for so many years?

It's going to really suck if the rest of the SEC says Fuc Bama and make their own conference leaving you cheaters out! frick bama the only way to win is to cheat. I've seen on many occasions the refs putting balls 1/2 yard to a yard over where the ball is supposed to be and do the opposite for LSU. I've seen PI called on LSU and not on the opposing team many times. The rest of the SEC need to do something about it and quit being pussies. frick bama and the SEC!

Exactly Wilson was making a legal football play and helmets collided. You can see in the gif he makes contact in a split second as he wraps up.

Macks form was damn near perfect on the play:
Yes, Macks head is slightly tucked, but this was not a spear.
Macks plants his facemask right on Noil's number, looking it all the way in.
Get his head across the body.
He is also attempting to wrap him up.
That's textbook form tackling.

It was really good until by rule you see him leading with the top of his helmet and then was attempting to wrap up..
The kid made another play soon after that was bad arse.
