Believe it or don't, but I work in Tallahassee and have outstanding contacts at a high level in the FSU football program. This is how I understand it:

1. FSU desperately wanted to keep him and were/are shocked and dismayed he left.

2. FSU simply does not have the money to get in a bidding war with UGA. Even if they scraped up the coin to match UGA's offer, that was the ceiling. The current salary he is getting at UGA is the floor. He's set to break a mill if he succeeds this year at UGA. He would never make that at FSU.

3. CMR is very comfortable at UGA and comfortable with his role as CEO. Fisher is still feeling his way and hovers quite a bit over his assistants. CMR was/is willing to let Pruitt do what he wants and is more than happy to give Pruitt full credit. Fisher? Not so much.

Anyway, that's the skinny I got from high sources deep within the FSU football program. Take it for what you think it's worth.
