Why can't Auburn fans get excited for the Arkansas game?

This should be a big game every year given our series since they first joined the SEC. Yet, the game-day environment is always so boring compared to hosting UGA, LSU and 'Bama.

There is zero excitement as far as tailgates are concerned every single time we host them.

We have a pretty competitive series. But fans from Arkansas and Auburn just don't travel well to each other's stadiums.

Why is that? Serious responses only, please.

It is a very long drive, I must admit.

Doesnt completely justify poor travel, though. Arkansas fans dont travel as well as other fanbases in the SEC, and generally arent as rabid.

My experience with them is they are nice folk, and are content mingling and going to the game.

Compare that to, say, lsu/auburn fans. While we have a great time together, we also have a hate for each other that elevates the gameday passion.

For me I get hyped for Bama,UGA or LSU way more than most games because I encounter these fans everyday. Fun trash talking all year leads to a hyped game, no matter how the previous season has played out.

Though, I can say I am excited for this Arkansas game. It will be our test, to see if we really are a decent team this year and how we will match against upcoming opponents.

Until Missouri was added, they have been the farthest school we have had to face each season.

It just doesn't fit into our "Old SEC" footprint.

Wish it could be a more feasible game, but they have a huge infatuation with Texas and Oklahoma, and we have an equally strong infatuation with Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida as far as recruiting goes.

It is a pity that we weren't more closer.

Well Arkansasusually isn't in contention to win the SEC like Bama/LSU/Auburn normally are in a given year. With less success obviously comes with less fan travel. It would be dumb to spend all that money keep going to games you know you are going to lose at. Simple economics, most people only travel to away games if they think they will win. Not to mention we are further geographically located from most schools than others are with each other.

I understand, it's the same here for some reason we just enjoy playing other teams more than Auburn. When you play lsu you play the whole state, same with ole miss, alabama, Tenn, Georgia, but Auburn is more like Arkansas State except Bama took their foot off their throat and let them sit at the grown up table. They gripe more about Alabama than the talk positive about there own team. I guess we hear about it enough already and don't want to hear it from some fkn little brothers from alabama

Must be distance related. Hogs travel very well to Dallas and that is not a great college football weekend destination. really not much n that area for college football fans to do. There isn't a strip of sports bars and places to hangout unless you want to drive 20 minutes to Ft Worth. Who wants to do that?

The distance thing sucks. About 550 miles to Tuscaloosa next week. In fact, going to Ole Miss, Miss St, Auburn, and Bama is an all day grind on the road.

1. They're not a top tier program, like the ones you mentioned

2. It has been competitive. They've had some great coaches: Gus and Petrino (not so much lately)

3. Who the hell willingly wants to travel to Arkansas?!

You're right about this - but for those Hog fans that live East of the Mississippi, it's a good game to go to. I like visiting Auburn. Fans are relatively nice, and I like the shuttle that runs from the shopping center to the stadium. For those of us that can't make it to Fayetteville every year it's a nice one.

So Auburn fans don't get excited for home games with Texas A&M or Arkansas?

Sounds like an Auburn problem to me.

Its an odd little series. What little heat there is between the two schools comes from Auburn's tendency to pick coaches from the state of Arkansas.

So you get some years where there is bad blood because of that. Which is not a surprise, if Arkansas had a coach from the state of Alabama I imagine they would put more importance on beating Bama and Auburn then other games and y'all would want to beat them too.

After a few years that dies out and we settle into an amiable dislike for one another. We are fairly far apart in distance. The series is not particularly lop sided to breed ill will. We tend to play early or in the middle of the season so there isn't the sense of urgency that you get with your last game of the year.

Very nice response.

Just one question I have. Do you guys play at two different stadiums each year?

That is a confusion on our part.

You also get games in Dallas each year.

I genuinely and respectfully don't know. Not trying to be a dick.
