Not trying to start a GSD on here. I'm looking at historical records as I'm updating the LeGit National Championship lineage in my official records. Just curious why LR fans are so adamant about keeping all those games.

No other school plays as many off campus games as Arkansas. We've been playing 3-4 games off campus for a long time, no one else does it. I understand why the Hogs played basketball games in Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, and LR. Until the NWA boom the facilities in the biggest cities were better and the infrastructure to get to NWA wasn't there. (I-540, US 412, XNA etc.)

This is a financial disadvantage big time. I actually like Central Arkansas and I think we need to keep a presence there but 2-3 games a year is a bit much. The landscape and reality of the present has changed. I hope when the current WMS contract ends we got to 1 LR game and in those years where we've got an extra home game they get 2. 2 at most ever again, but not 2 a year for eternity.

And they ain't got mountains like NWA does.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Arkansas fan base can be it's own worst enemy.

I'm an LR fan. I would prefer only one game per year being in LR, but I would hope it would be an SEC game. I also wish WMS would be replaced.

When NWA starts producing athletes like Darren McFadden, Michael Dyer, Joe Adams, D.J. Williams Jake Bequette, Joe Johnson, Archie Goodwin, Jamaal Anderson, etc., then move all games to NWA.

NWA has produced Tyler Wilson, Damian Williams, and Ronnie Brewer, but not very much historically.

For now, there's too much at stake recruiting-wise for UA to abandon Little Rock.

Dyer? Tenpenny? Goodwin? JA was a 2* WR and Arkansas was his only real option. Joe Adams was headed to Southern Cal before we hired Petrino. DMAC and Bequette were always going to be Hogs.

Current players that matter on the roster from NWA are:

Brandon Allen
Brey Cook
Mitch Smothers
Demetrius Dean
Zach Hocker
Tyler Wilson

Why are LR fans so greedy?

I am originally from NWA and have 2 degrees from the UofA. Whilest living in NWA, I always wanted all the games in Fayetteville. I now live in Little Rock, and still make it to all the home games.

Having said that, I am in favor of keeping 1 semi-important game (or 2 crappy games) in LR because we need to keep this part of the state connected to NWA. The UofA is in an awkward position compared to most schools that have fans from all over the state (aka not a Florida, Alabama, Texas school). Being in the far corner of the state, Arkansas needs to keep its presence in LR for the fans, yes fans, more than it does for recruiting.

LR also doesn't have as many eroded plateaus (or mountains as you call them), but we do have plenty of parks -ie Pinnacle Mountain- that put many NWA trails to shame.

However, I do want all important games on the hill.

In The Year of the Dog book about the Springdale 5 it talked a little bit about this.

When Arkansas decided to move games up to Fayetteville a bunch of the southern Arkansas people in general were mad. NWA had Tyson, Georges, Walmart, JB Hunt, Harvey and Bernice Jones, and now they were going to get the Razorbacks too.

So they agreed to play 2 games a year down in Little Rock.. Normally one pushover team, and one SEC team.

Like the OP said, XNA and I-540 have rendered this point moot. It's 2 and a half hours from LR to NWA, that's not a good enough reason to be 'connected' with LR fans. Plus, the people that go to Little Rock games act like huge assholes and give us all a bad name.

Who gives a frick?!

Why do our fans give a flying frick where they play? It's not like LR is 10 hours away. Go watch your team play, enjoy it and please STFU already.

They should quit their bitching. They didn't even put in a bid for the University of Arkansas in 1871 because Little Rock citizens didn't want a crazy liberal university in their town. Big mistake, Little Rock

so you are saying the only non-NWA fans to go to LR games are from Little Rock? The LR games pull in fans from everywhere in the state because it is a centralized game and only happens twice a year. Memphis, El Dorado, Warren, Texarkana, Pine Bluff, etc fans only have to travel ~2-3 hours (day trip for the less wealthy) to see us play, versus having to go 5-6 hour drive to NWA. These are the small schools that have provided the UofA alot of talent over the years. I would bet most of our African American players from in state went to more games in LR than NWA when they were young. Im sorry, but that is reality. We need to keep a presence down here.

But like I said, keep all the big games in Fayetteville, that is where the campus is and students should have that right.

History. There were many many years where UA had to play in LR to survive. There were more seats in LR. More fans in LR. More money in LR.
Playing in LR is deeply engrained in Razorback history, a tradition that goes back decades.
The players also love playing down there, it's a special atmosphere. Nothing rocks like War Memorial on a Saturday night (when it's a meaningful game.)
Mike Leach said it's the loudest place he's ever been (he was on Kentucky staff then), other coaches have said it's extremely hard to win in War Memorial, they hate going there.
And yes, some folks argue that LR and South Arkansas fans are putting 'their convenience' about the 'good of the program' by wanting to continue to have games in LR. Well, it goes beyond 'convenience', there are a lot of fans that do go to the LR games that absolutely could not go to Fayetteville ones. For example, the farmer from DeWitt and his wife and two kids that sit if front of us EVERY game at War Memorial, and I know there are countless others.
The next argument is that 'it's costing the University money'. Well, I sure there would be more dollars picked up if they didn't play in LR, but with all the building that's going on in the athletic facilities, and the money it's rumored they have to throw around in the coaching search, I'd say it's not hurting them too bad.
It's two games - on usually meaningless non-conf cupcake, and one conference game, normally later in the season.
Then folks want to bitch about the stadium. Yes, she's old, but you have to be to have history. Yes, there are not as many seats - but at least you can see the game from every seat in the stadium without a pair of binoculars and an air sickness bag. The stadium is not as 'sparkly', 'sterile', and 'pristine' as newer ones, of course, but there have been millions of dollars of renovations done over the last several years. What do you lack in War Memorial? A seat to watch the game? No. A place to piss? No. Concessions? No. A great place to tailgate? No, in fact the tailgating space is far superior to Fayetteville. Atmosphere? Fayetteville may be improving, on the rare 'big' game up there (Alabama for example) they can get loud, but have to work twice as hard to do it.
It's two games a year. No big deal.

You apparently get a percent of this money. I can see why you care so much about that aspect of it.

Is War Memorial ran by a private non-profit or the city of LR? I don't remember.

i hear this argument all the time but bottom line is we need to have all our games in Fayetteville for the good of the program.

None of these are true any longer. Alabama used to play in Birmingham, Ole Miss used to play in Jackson, and LSU used to play in Shreveport. Those were all "engrained in history" too, until they faced facts and dropped those sites.

Stadium opened years:
War Memorial Stadium - 1948
Razorback Stadium - 1938

Argument invalid. Razorback Stadium is older yet nicer.

When I was growing up, I lived 8+ hours away from Fayetteville. My family made the pilgrimage to Fayetteville a few times a year anyway. So spare me the sob story of "poor delta farmers blah blah blah" that are 4-5 hrs away. True fans find a way to be in the stadium on Saturdays. We drove across two states, so forgive me if I don't want to hear bitching from people that live in-state whining about travel.
