How many "really good" head coaches are there? I don't think just becuase one hasn't come directly from Saban means anything. Either you're a good coach or you aren't, but if someone is trying to copy Saban's way of doing it, it might not work for them.

Mark Dantonio at Michigan St. coached under Saban and he has been fairly successful up there.

He tells them and their wives to zip it and get in the back seat.

Honestly, I agree and actually like that way.

I have no problem, if Saban does it all. Our program doesn't miss a lick when assistants leave.

Read the book entitled "The Peter Principle" (please, no obvious jokes); you'll understand.

Because he pushes the ever living shite out of them. He forces them to be better than they normally are. Once he is no longer a factor, they drop off.

Most of them are pretty young but look at all the coaches fired this year. Dennis Erickson? Nutt, Neuheisel,.... These guys were once considered really good coaches but it's hard to catch time in a bottle. Richt was considered a world beater and the last few years he's been on the hot seat.

College coaching is a high risk, high reward profession and tough to be a big winner. Only time will tell.

Because they spent too much time in the state of La. That will drag down your IQ.

working for a good coach does not necessarily make you a good head coach. an assistant coach can learn a lot of technique, dicipline and such from their boss, but that does not ensure that that assistant will have the intangibles that make a really good head coach.

but, you also have to give these young guys a few years.

Saban wasn't the coach he is now until about his fourth year at Michigan State. That's when he started using the structure he used for success at LSU, and now Alabama. You can learn everything a head coach has to offer, but until you're on your own, and implementing your own structure, you can't be fully prepared. I think it's way to early to characterize Dooley, Muschamp, or Fischer.

If Jimbo was schooled under Bowden, then wasn't Muschamp schooled under Brown?

How do you know this? Did you coach under Saban?
