I'm going to put down who I think could contend and why.
Alabama:
Good: It's Saban. The WR core is talented. OJ Howard is a monster. Stable of RB's. Coker is supposedly super talented. Elite recruiting class.
Bad: They have Kiffin. Lost 2/5 of the OL. QB is a complete unknown. Defense will have a lot of new faces. It lost 7/11 starters.
Auburn:
Good: It's Malzahn. Most of the offense is back. Nick Marshall returns. The D, while losing some talent is replacing it with possibly better, younger talent (Eguae for Adams) (Holland for Frost). Great recruiting class.
Bad: Losing a top 5 draft pick in Greg Robinson hurts. Individually, he is by far a superior player to any other Auburn O.lineman. (They are a great unit). WR is still a ? D'haquille will need to be the guy. (He is an absolute stud on tape). Can anyone replace Tre Mason's production/effectiveness? Plenty of candidates. No replacement for Jay Prosch that I can see. Losing Dee Ford hurts. Will the secondary be better? Let's hope so.
UGA:
Good: Pruitt is a huge huge upgrade. I can't even express how big. Arguably, the best bunch of RB's in the SEC. Great bunch of WR's. Almost all of the Defense returns.
Bad: Lose Murray. QB is a ? Will our WR's come back healthy? Our O.line is a complete and total ? 3/5 is gone. The D was trash last year VS the pass.
LSU:
Good: Some talented RB's. Great recruiting class. 4/5 of the OL returns. Much of the Defense is back.
Bad: QB is a ? WR is a ? Both DT's are gone. DJ Welter is still the MLB. Both Safeties are unproven.
South Carolina:
Good: Dylan Thompson has proven he can play well. The stable of SC RB's returns. Most of the WR core is back. Most of the O.line is back.
Bad: the D.line is mostly gone (3/4). Both CB's are gone.
