If I remember correctly, if you sign and start school, you have six years to play a total of four. That is how the baseball players that choose the minor leagues first instead of attending school can come back and play CFB later.

this is correct... i thought about going back to school at one point a few years ago during the worst of our kicking woes and trying out for kicker but i was ineligible for this reason.

We play BYU this year and most of their roster is in the mid 20's b/c of Mormon Missions they go to for 2 years then they redshirt as well.

Their starting QB last season was 26
