I saw The Snake at the FloraBama one time. He was with John Goodman. Sadly, that's as close as I've ever been to true QB greatness.

Tommie Frazier definitely deserves a mention.

If for nothing else than crushing the fricking gators into oblivion. Plus he grew up 5 doors down from me in Bradenton, Fl

He could have seen him there last year. Snake frequented bars all over the coast until he passed. I've seen him at the Bama, Pony, Live Bait, Pirates Cove..... Snake never missed a good time.

Reading this thread makes it seem like CFB just started 10 years ago or all of you are young as frick

What about Tommie Frazier, Charlie Ward, or Danny Wuerffel?

ETA: Maybe I misunderstood the question. Is this supposed to be in person or ones that we've watched in our lifetimes?

The best pure passer I ever saw in college was Carson Palmer, dude threw the most beautiful ball there ever was. It's a shame injuries have limited his NFL career, he could have been a HOFer.

Best all around? Manziel, never seen a true running quarterback who could comfortably work from the pocket as well as he could. Michael Vick is close but he wasn't the passer Manziel was.

The most dominant though would probably be Cam, every team knew EXACTLY what he was gonna do and still couldn't stop it. Not many QBs can run for 150-200 yards with 8 men in the box. LSU threw the kitchen sink at him and still couldn't stop him from running. Vince Young was a close second, but he was a scrambler in a spread offense and didn't face the loaded boxes Cam often did.

Jamarcus Russell

Eta: and I've seen Vince Young and Tebow play live.

Russell's cannon was more impressive.

Cam Newton is #1. Charlie Ward and Matt Leinart tied for #2.

Tommie Frazier was a triple option QB, maybe the most niche position in all of sports. You have to have an incredibly specific skillset and be willing to take big hits regularly. He was GREAT at what he did, though.

Charlie Ward is in the discussion, dude was a dynamite athlete.

Wuerffel was your run of the mill spread system QB back before anyone knew what that was, similar to Andre Ware. He operated an offense designed to give QBs huge numbers without any special skillset. A decade later Mike Leach was putting out a different QB like him every single year. Does anyone consider Garaham Harrell an all-time great because he threw for a billion yards?
