Whoa - how did Bama play Vandy every year after expansion until 2003?

Bama already had Tennessee as a cross division opponent.
Tennessee had Alabama every year and then rotated evenly with:
92 - Ark
93 - Ark
94 - Miss State
95 - Miss State
96 - Ole Miss
97 - Ole Miss
98 - Auburn
99 - Auburn
00 - LSU
01 - LSU

Everyone had two permanents from 1992-2002.

They were our TSIO backup plan in the event UT got tired of getting their arse smacked mid-season.

Everyone had 2 permanents. UT was a power in the 90s, beating Bama 7 straight times from 95-01 and winning the 98 National Title. I suppose you think it would've been more fair if we played both UT and UF in the regular season every year.
Similarly while LSU had to play UF every year it was also balanced by Kentucky being their other permanent

State played USCe and KY each year 1992-2003 along with one rotating team every two years.
OM played UGA and Vandy, plus one rotating team.
In 2003, they went to one permanent and two rotating up through 2011 when the expansion changed it again.

Until 2002 every team in the SEC had 2 permanent cross-divisional opponents and only 1 rotating.
The permanent opponent that went away:
Alabama had Vandy
Auburn had Florida
Arkansas had Tennessee
LSU had Kentucky
Ole Miss had Georgia
Mississippi State had South Carolina

It might be hard for some folks to remember now but Tennessee was a national power in the 1990s. They won three SEC titles and one national title. They finished in the Top 15 or better nine times that decade. Since we had two permanent cross-divisional opponents, I don't think it would have been fair had we also been paired up with Florida.

We would have been their easy game back in the '90s, when Tennessee was still unButched.

I believe LSU was at .500 vs uk in the discussed period

To ensure that Alabama had the easiest path to a championship the SEC office, which is located in Birmingham, AL and about 90 miles from Tuscaloosa, would schedule weaker cross-division schools and made Auburn and LSU play more difficult schedules.
