Same story here. JUCO in Mississippi. Played with and against some great athletes, but wished I would have walked on at Bama instead.

ETA: And looking at your name and location, I'm assuming we both played at the same school in Mississippi. What years were you there?

My brother played for DSU was recruited by Fred Reilly, some of you older guys from north Alabama may remember Reilly to hill`s 1980 87 yard pass in the final seconds against Jacksonville state that gave UNA The gulf south conference championship, it is UNA`S kick6 moment.

I was a walk on who only played in mop up time

A lot of times I felt like I wasn't truly part of the team because I didn't contribute on the field

This mindset changed when we were at Disneyland for the Rose Bowl. We were in line for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and some family asked the group I was with, me directly, if we played football for TCU. I pointed at my other teammates and said "they do", because most of them were starters and key players. Then one of my teammates who was a starter lectured me about how I was just as much of a part of the team as they were because I put in the same time, effort, and energy, infact I may have put in more.

After that my attitude changed.

I played a little in the NBA then a couple years in the NFL

Is anyone old enough to remember a John Murphy that was a back up QB at either Alabama or Auburn? John is currently a Footjoy salesman in South Florida. I worked for the same company and thought it was pretty cool to have played college football at that level.
