Not really. You lost to Texas and Miami was the consensus #1. Facts and such....

WTF?

He is right. Everybody but the voters on the AP and UPI polls that year felt Auburn was number 1. You know, because it is acceptable to claim championships when you are not voted that way by the two major polls of the day.

It's really just Bama fans that try and disagree about AU being the true national champ in 1983 these days. Insecurity or whatever, doesn't matter.
About every article and analysis of the 1983 season in the past ten years has concluded AU was the 1983 NC.

Yeah right. Y'all melt when people even QUESTION the Tenn game. Without the SEC pretty much every game Bama fans care about is off the map. Y'all would hate Notre Dame's schedule, or BYU's.

True about any of the Charter Members, IMO; especially in Football and Baseball. Basketball, not so much.

This. The SEC would not be where it is without Bama. Bama would have dominated in any conference. When people think SEC, they think Bama. It has always been that way, and it likely always will be.

Georgia Tech used to be a national powerhouse then they left the SEC.

SEC was good before Bama was good. Bama was the 4th southern team to gain national relevance after AU, tulane, and Georgia tech.
Furthermore the foundation of the current success the SEC has enjoyed and recognition as the best football conference in the land was laid and built without Bama. The 2003-2008 period.

You were 3rd in AP and Coaches. It would be wiser to complain about '04

Bama was winning titles waaay before this ever started.

No. The 2 polls that counted were AP and UPI. Auburn won neither. As a matter of fact they finished 3rd. Miami is national champs for 1983. End of story, no argument, no debate. Same with 2004. The BCS and AP were the polls that counted. Au won neither so no championship that year either.
No, AU did not gain national relevance before Bama. Without the 25 Rose Bowl win the SEC wouldn't have been invited back and wouldn't have risen until the 50's. Also, AU was never invited to that Bowl.

Like USA Today?
"fabrication", "highly flimsy".
Or maybe Tony Barnhardt of the AJC?
""That run deserved a national championship," said Housel. "But it just wasn't to be."
"Despite the disappointment of not winning the national championship, the 1983 Auburn team remains one of the most revered in school history. "
Or perhaps you mean ESPN?
"But not as impressive as its shocking win over the Huskers in perhaps the greatest championship game ever played, a victory that propelled Miami to five titles over an 18-year period, an era of dominance unmatched since."

Well, Bama fans and the two major polls of the day.
And everybody but Auburn fans.

that post has been changed four times to steer the voters. Version five coming up. How about "Bama is not worthy"?
