Chad Lavalais
Chad might be the answer to the above poster's questions. I know th Falcons drafted him, don't know if he ever made it on the field
Keep in mind they split the POY award as 2003. Almost all the POYs before that were on O

Chad Lavalais started 20 games for the Falcons, so he is out.
As far as I can tell, and I looked up every SEC POY and SEC DPOY, it's only Michael Sam, with Shane Ray's NFL career pending.

If the past winners of SEC POY and SEC DPOY are any indicator of NFL prowess, Shane Ray is gonna be real goot.
Notable SEC POYs and DPOYs
2013 - CJ Mosley
2010 - Nick Fairley
2009 - Rolando McClain
2008 - Eric Berry
2007 - Glenn Dorsey
2006 - Patrick Willis
2005 - DeMeco Ryans
1986 - Cornelius Bennett
1983 - Reggie White
1968 - Jake Scott

Because LSU is the beacon of racial tolerance
My favorite racist comment that I've heard on a jobsite as a construction inspector? It happened in the Nola area (of course).
My jaw hit the floor when the Project Manager from Boh Bros said :
"Yeah, I could live without LSU football." (Responding right after some other racist dumbass said he wished the "n##(@s" would've not came back after Katrina.)
I've inspected construction in every southern state, from residential to Huey P Long bridge. And once the Huey ended, and I started working on parish contracts, I realized New Orleans was the most racist place I've ever lived.

I'm gonna go ahead and disregard your opinion because you're a construction worker.
GTFO, poor.

Good info.
Kind of a shame. I'm not saying Sam is up there with every great player, but SEC DPOYs don't get handed out like candy.
The dude kept Marcus Golden and Shane Ray out of the starting rotation, plus he outperformed Kony Ealy (by winning POY).
Doesn't make sense unless...

I'm sorry your state is so racist. Give me a few months and I'll let you know if it's any better on the west side. Hopefully there won't be anyone who wants me to know about why David Duke was misunderstood.

Sam would be on an active NFL roster had he not come out publicly. It's just that simple. He's not a star, but he's good enough to be a situational pass rusher. A star would be worth all the hoopla. A backup DE is not.
It was really stupid of him to come out (if he indeed really wanted to play ball).

That's just it, had he not made a spectacle of himself, he wouldn't be on Dancing with the Stars.

It's not that simple. Sam was never projected as anything but a 5th or later round draft pick at best. He never possessed LB speed and he was too small to play DE in the NFL. His "antics" & his mouth certainly didn't help his cause but he was marginal at best for the NFL.

Like I said. He's not a star, and likely not even a starter but he is a pass rushing technician. He'd have a spot on a team if he hadn't told everyone he was gay.

i tend to think the opposite is true. he would've been a udfa had he not made a big deal about how he likes his sex.

I don't believe this. He ran like a girl in his NFL combine 40. You could tell he was gay just by that sprint. Those who awarded POY probably knew he was gay, and it was an affirmative action award.
