Ole Miss is losing a safety in Cody Prewitt, a great Corner in Senquez Golson and a decent QB in Bo Wallace.

Replaced by Mike Hilton, Tee Shepard, and more than likely Chad Kelly. I am confident in Hilton and Shepard and concerned about about Kelly. What about you.

Losing David Andrews at Center, Amarlo Herrera and Ramik Wilson at LB, Gurley at RB.

Isaiah Wynn looks to be Andrews' heir apparent and he certainly has the talent to fill in nicely; just a question of experience at this point.

Herrera and Wilson will likely be replaced by a rotation of Tim Kimbrough, Jake Ganus (UAB transfer), Reggie Carter, and Roquan Smith. All four are very talented and should provide some more speed at the position (which gels well with Pruitt's system) but, again, it's just a question of experience. Ganus has it in spades but at UAB, Kimbrough and Carter have it in backup roles, and Smith is a highly touted true freshman.

Gurley's heir is Chubb. Enough said.

Mike Hilton is a good player but he won't be as good as Prewitt and it's going to be hard for Kelly or any of the other quarterbacks to have the same production that Bo had. That being said, I think Shepard is going to be just as good as Golson.

Not worried about losing either Herrera or Wilson...thought both were more effective in '13
than last year...we're God awful in pass defense vs
SC and equally bad in run defense vs GT...just were
very inconsistent.

More worried about replacing Andrews.

Losing Payne, Coates, Marshall, Grant

Im confident that Jovon Robinson and Roc Thomas can replace Payne and Grant easily. No replacement for Coates, however Duke is still going to be catching passes and we have a bunch of other guys that can easily come in and make a difference (I think everyone knows who Ricardo Louis is). Losing Marshall's legs is a set back, but losing his arm is a good thing. I'm 100% confident in Johnson replacing Marshall.

DEFENSE:

we lose 3 veteran starters in DB Brison Williams, Spur/LB Sherrod Golightly, and DT JT Surratt.

Those 3 were actually the only players that were legitimate returning starters on defense last season for USC, with most everyone else either having some starting experience but only for a few gms, or being reserves or red-shirted or true freshmen.

We'll replace Dukes for Surratt at DT: he's a SEC body that'll be a 5th-yr. senior that hasn't been able to earn a starting role but has a ton of playing time. He'll be alongside returning DT Dixon Jr. (12 starts), and backed up with Kelcey Griffin, Abu Lamin, and Taylor Stallworth. The interior DL was terrible last year at closing gaps and stopping the run, so we will need to improve substantially there. We have depth and talent there so I'm not sure what the problem was (perhaps coaching).

We'll replace Williams with incoming Kansas transfer Isaiah Johnson. Kansas was pitiful last season but Johnson was their clear defensive star and earned all-conference honors. Williams last season alternated between Cb and FS last year and mostly played with a bum arm that impacted his tackling. We'll have Chris Moody backing and he started about half the season last season as a first-time starter but wasn't very good. But he's talented and now has some experience. At SS TJ Gurley won the starting position (as a first-time starter) over Chaz Elder was was also a first-time starter last season. Gurley was an un-heralded leader for the defense finishing 2nd in team tackles and I think will be a defensive star for us this season. Adding the experience and talent of Johnson and the Safety unit looks much better with experienced depth in Moody and Elder.

Since Williams also played CB (he mostly played that) last season, let's talk about the CB unit. Besides him we return all others including first-time starters Rico McWilliams & Chris Lammons. Al Harris Jr. also started 4 gms as a true freshman and has some talent. Talented Cb Wesley Green red-shirted last season and should provide some solid backup in the 2-deep. McWilliams really came on strong towards the 2nd half of the season and like Gurley I think he's a star candidate for the defense waiting to happen. USC allowed 400+ passing yds to both TAMU & ECU in their first 2 gms of 2014, then allowed 185 passing yds per game the rest of the way. Opponents chose to run against us more than pass, but IMO our passing defense should be solid to excellent next season.

LB should again be a strength for the defense. We need to play gap assignments better and do a better job of backing the DL on run defense, but we have some great talent in Skai Moore, Jonothan Walton, and Jordan Diggs, plus some talented depth as well.

Gotta think the defense as a whole should improve just by default: it can't get any worse. If you read the text wall above you see a lot of repetition: first-time starters. Most of the defense came into 2014 as either only having playing time in a reserve role, or were red-shirted or true freshmen. Not enough experience and not enough leadership. IMO it just overwhelmed the defense, and coaching staff.

OFFENSE:

USC lost it's QB in Dylan Thompson, it's RB in Mike Davis, 3 veteran receivers in Nick Jones, Damiere Byrd, and Shaq Roland plus it's top TE in Busta Anderson. USC also lost 2 OL in LT Corey Robinson and LG AJ Cann.

Lots of losses on offense. Biggest question will be QB Connor Mitch. He has talent and all the potentials, but very little actual playing experience. If Steve Spurrier is still a QB Guru, it's time for him to show what he can do...

At RB we have talented depth in Brandon Wilds and David Williams. IMO either could end up being a 1K rusher for USC - especially if Wilds who has a history of injury can stay healthy this season - but probably will hurt each other by platooning most of the season.

At WR we have Pharoh Cooper who is well proven and the SEC's top returning receiver. He'll be the offense's star this season, and hopefully will help Mitch catch up with everyone else quickly. USC has unproven and inexperienced depth at WR behind Cooper, but it is very talented. Look for true freshman Deebo Samuels to make a splash early: he's a Cooper clone as a playmaker.

At TE we still have Jamal Adams who was our #2 TE behind Anderson and has starts and lots of experience. An athletic freak who hasn't yet played his best football IMO.

At the OL we have some veterans who have some experience due to past shuffling as a result of injury. Secured spots for next season should be Brandon Shell at RT and Alan Knott at C. At RG Will Sport has some starting experience, but we might also use Cody Waldrop who has starts at OG/C under his belt. Also veteran Mike Matulis is a talented OL but has dealt with a lot of injury: if he can avoid that he'll likely find a spot at guard along the line. LT is a big question mark but Mason Zandi is as huge as Robinson was - maybe not as heavy but maybe a tad more foot-speed. At LG we'll probably play either Donnell Stanley or DJ Park, two large OL that have had at least one year in the program to develop.

OL last season had the potential to be one of the best ever at USC, and they fell short of those expectations. Still wasn't the worst, as USC had one of it's best season of offensive production. We've lost some important key players on the left side of the line, so how the replacements develop will be a concern...

Danielle Hunter being replaced by Tashawn Bower is a really prolific pass rusher very confident about him.
Jermariua Rasco- i am a little worried about his replacement it will be Lewis Neal or Deondre Clark.
Offensive line- very confident about the two being replaced.
Jalen Collins- Not worried he was a decent Corner Ed Paris will be a beast he was one of my favorite recruit from 2014

LB/DE Bud Dupree - Jason Hatcher/Denzil Ware.

Neither Hatcher or Ware are Dupree. I've got confidence that they can be good at the position and, while I'm not concerned there, there is at least some question of depth.

DE Za'Darius Smith - Farrington Hugeunin.

Huguenin got plenty of reps last fall but doesn't have Z's motor or passrush talent. His backup is a true frosh, unless rFR Tymere Dubose gets reps at DE rather than DT. I've got some concerns about this position.

DT Mike Douglas - CJ Johnson.

Douglas was a utility tackle and played a little of everywhere in his career, from DE as a freshman to NT last year and 3 tech as a SR. I like Johnson better as an athlete and pass rusher. The only question is if he's gotten his assignments down.

S Ashley Lowery - Marcus McWilson

McWilson had already taken Lowery's spot in the last 3 games of the season, but I'm including him anyway. McWilson is the better athlete and player.

LT Darrian Miller - Jordan Swindle

Swindle will move from RT to LT. I have concerns about the position period, but Swindle is probably the best choice for the role. Big concern here.

WR Demarco Robinson - Jeff Badet

I like Badet better than Robinson and Badet took his snaps as a frosh before missing his sophmore season due to a couple of freak injuries. Lots of confidence here.

WR Javess Blue - Dorian Baker

Baker is bigger and more physical, but probably not as fast as Blue. I like Baker a lot, so I've got some confidence about the position.

TE Steve Borden - CJ Conrad/Darryl Long

Conrad (FR) and Long (rFR) are both bigger than Borden. Borden struggled catching the ball and blocking in space both years he was here and I think one or both of his replacements will be an upgrade. I don't know how much confidence I have in the spot, but it honestly can't get any worse.

RB Braylon Heard - Boom Williams

Like the Lowery/McWilson analysis above, Williams was the starter the last few games of the season anyway. Williams has a chance to be a breakout SEC player in '15 if he can stay healthy. Very confident.

Both DEs- Not all that confident. I like Harris, but not sure if he's ready to be a 10 sack guy just yet.

All starting WR- somewhat confident. Moore is a legit deep threat. Brown is a strong kid with great hands and a big body. Leftwich is really fast and a fifth year SR. Wingo is one of the fastest guys in the SEC.

Braylon Webb at safety- Very confident in Sherrils. He has the size/speed combo to be an all SEC/Sunday guy. Vicious hitter. He's going to be great.

Mitch Morse LT- fairly confident. We brought in two top JUCO tackles and can move McGovern there if needed.

1/2 our DT 2 deep- very confident. Brantley is the best DT in the SEC. Augusta has Sunday potential and we add 5* Beckner Jr to the mix.

Overall, I think we'll be a bit limited on offense, but have a good running game. The defense will be very good. Best back 7 we have had under Pinkel. Could be great if we have a couple DEs step up.

OL COACH
BJ Anderson -> Dave Christensen
Recruiting for Defelopment. Really excited for our new "running game coordinator" and for our OL to play more aggressively. More 3 pt stances on the interior. DC was OC @ Utah last year, and @Mizzou for their two best offenses ever. Biggest offseason upgrade.

WR COACH
David Beatty --> Aaron moorehead
We lost a BJ Added "moorehead" nomsayin. This one is interesting. DB was awesome his first couple years, made the jump to HC @kansas. Rumor was he didn't take not being named OC very well and slacked off in recruiting and coaching our WRs. AMO is energetic and a technician, won a ring with Peyton, Marvin, and Reggie. Need a perfectionist because our WR were very talented but also raw last year.

DC
Mark Snyder --> CHIEF.
one of the Worst DC in the country to a mid-upper level SEC DC.

SLOT
Malcolme Kennedy --> Christian Kirk
MK was a stud, CK is drawing rave reviews and as polished a slot receiver I've seen out of HS

LT
Cedric Ogbuehi--> Avery Gennessy or Germain Ifedi, AG leading right now. Biggest talent drop off total, hoping for coaching change making up the difference across the position group.

SS
Howard Matthews RIP--> Justin Evans
Based on spring reviews, upgrade. Matthews was decent in the box, but got lost in coverage and missed a lot of WR transfers, wheel routes. LF killed him last thanksgiving, and he went helmet to helmet in the 1st quarter of the bowl game.

CB
Deshazor Everett--> MYSTERY
Several adequate guys, but we're waiting for someone to jump out and claim one of the top 2 spots at corner.
