Georgia. They're basically a Yankee state now.

Probably Florida because Florida Man and alligators high on bath salts eating children at Disney before the Groomers can co-opt them.

Excluding Missouri.
Missouri, for better or worse, has far more in common with the core SEC states than Florida or Texas.

We've had disasters and we have done nothing but pull together.

So you are saying that only yankees can make a successful state...OK. I guess we will just have to leave the pining for The Glorious Cause to Bama and others.

LOL well this is foolish as hell. There are multiple SEC states with less in common with the SEC footprint...say what you want about the university but the overall state of MO is a different story

Since expansion
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Texas
Were all in the old SIAA (grandmother to the SEC)
Arkansas was old SWC but Ole Miss and LSU would not join the SWC
That leaves Missouri and Oklahoma in the old Big 8 and Sooners probably had more games against current and former SEC than Missouri

The thread title was SEC States, not SEC programs. Missouri, as a state, has far more in common with most of the SEC than Florida or Texas.

Louisiana.
LSU fans under the age of 50 hate all other teams and states in the country.

You just proved my point!
What the SEC shares most in common is the merger of the state with its college programs. Most of the SEC states have no pro teams so you have high statewide support for the colleges that stand in their place. Missouri, the state, has too many pro teams to fit the traditional SEC footprint and programs.

Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana all have pro sports teams. What are you talking about? Kentucky is closer to an NFL team (Cincinnati) than Mizzou. Same deal for South Carolina (Charlotte). And although not a traditional SEC state, Texas is flooded with pro sports franchises.

Florida
Have you ever been to the state?
North Florida is southern
South Florida is northern
Gators were a charter school and pro's did not gain traction till the Dolphins in the 70's
quote:
Tennessee
Tennessee did not get the NFL till the Titans moved in 1998, interesting as that was also the last season the Vols were good
quote:
Louisiana
Not historically good early on, Tulane was the casualty of the Saints more than LSU
quote:
Georgia
Atlanta is a city state (solid blue) in a sea of red. Georgia Tech's early success in the SEC followed by Georgia meant they had solid followers before the NFL came to town
quote:
Kentucky
Northern KY may be Bengals and Reds but still lots of BBN there. Rest of the state is solid BBN.

South Carolina
Charlotte is new to pro sports, Cocks have been around much longer
quote:
Texas
TAMU was just added and Utx has not joined yet. Sure lots of pro teams in TX but all were predated by TAMU and Utx in the SIAA.

I see so many Missouri posters in this thread have no idea about 80% of Florida. Yes we have Miami(not southern) and Mouse land(who the F knows) that obviously have influenced their thought pattern. The rest of the state is made up of southern red necks as the rest of the SEC.

My guess is most (if not all) Mizzou fans have ever been to the Redneck Riviera and think as you pointed out that FL is Orlando and Miami. SEC Media Day's in Destin is not there by accident.

Louisiana. Not even close. Anything else is the wrong answer.
