I think you're very wrong because he was a ready made QB thanks to a good JUCO coach just as much as Hugh.. and to say he's "barely qualified" after he won the freaking JUCO NC is a homeristic reach.

What you are doing would be like me saying Mullen developed Newton for Auburn. Sound retarded? Is retarded..

If you really don't grasp that his relationship with Freeze is different from your average JUCO kid and their new HC then you're blind.

He's terrified of playing one of us in the SECCG.

He shouldn't be. Kentucky will assuage all his fears.

MSU no so much Mullen gone after this season to FL.

So you don't think there is another coach out there that can win at MSU?

Mullen is the first that I remember to do it with any real consistency. Getting someone to come on behind him and duplicate his success wouldn't be easy.

Of course, it doesn't matter because he's not going anywhere. I've had this same argument with 5 different State fans this weekend who are convinced he's gonna ditch them after this season.

Won't happen. State can pay him whatever he wants and they will love him as long as he goes bowling every year and has the occasional season competing for/winning the SEC. Why would he leave that for a Michigan or a Florida where he'd be booted for not winning NCs every other year?

Same concept applies to Freeze.

Freeze is much more of a homeboy and he got much more support coming in as being "one of ours" in the OM crowd. It paid off big too. I'd pick Mullen to leave over Hugh any day.

I can say with absolute certainty that neither will be in Top 4 again for a while (after this season).

Hard to sustain success at both programs

Without a doubt Freeze is more...at home? I guess that's the proper way to put it. And that makes him the less likely of the two to jet.

But I think it would take way more than a, "Yo Dan!" and a flash of cash to get him to leave State. He's got a lot of himself invested in your program. I know a lot of OM fans don't like him as a person because of the way he talks about OM, but I think he's a pretty good guy. I put him in same vein of coaches as Miles, Richt, Spurrier and Freeze. You won't get much lip-service and coach speak from them. I think they mean most of what they say. I respect that.

We have fans that felt the same way about him in the beginning, but I think it's because the people that did not like him haven't ventured north of the Mason Dixon line TBH.

Definitely.

Also, Pete Thamel (the SI writer who spent the week leading up to the Auburn game in Starkville following the team) talked about how people close to the program said Mullen came in too abrasive and harsh at first. This was probably due to him modeling his coaching style after Meyer. He's apparently softened and come into his own lately and that's a big part of why the program has really taken off.

For sure..His first year had to be like free falling in 2009 making a move from Florida OC to a terrible Croom led MSU. The success both young coaches are having in Mississippi is staggering.

Mullen is doing this year with players he's recruited and developed for 4 years. There's more of those players right behind them.

Freeze has had a faster start just because of his ability to recruit the high school players who need less development, but he's doing it again this year so it wasn't a fluke.

Both coaches are succeeding with different types of players, but they're both doing it in ways that are absolutely sustainable - regardless of conference.

Neither team will be on top every year, but no team in the SEC ever is.

So with both teams being ranked in the top three, you are able to say with absolute certainty that neither will be in the top 4 again?

He doesn't use the OM word; except when he slips.
