An epic game in the regular season or an easy road to a NC shot?

I ask because it seems many Bama and LSU fans are jonesing for an undefeated matchup on Nov 5th. Why not hope for the biggest obstacle in your way to lose to help ensure your SECW title? Is it worth the risk of a NCG shot?

even if one loses, you would still need to beat them to avoid a tie where you lost the head to head.

"good teams don't worry about the schedule" - Sam Montgomery

Since I have to choose though....def an easy road to the NC, but that doesn't ensure you get a shot at the NC (Boise St.). But since we're in the SEC, easy road to NC does not compute.

eta - y'all are gonna get worked tomorrow

I've been pulling against Bama every game and hope all 22 starters fail a drug test or are arrested next week.

is there any reason why you don't include the coaching staff as well?

I do have to say early in the season last year I thought how awesome it would be if AU and Bama were undefeated for the Iron Bowl. Later in the season, I just wanted everyone to get out of our way.

You remember the epic games... I'm an LSU fan, but also a college football fan. I like matchups like Bama v Penn St., LSU v. Oregon, AU v USCw, UTex v. OSU, etc. If I wanted an easy shot at undefeated I'd become a Boise St. fan. I know they don't have an "easy" road to an NC shot, but I love epic match ups...and that schedule is a snoozer. That's why the SEC is so great... awesome teams, awesome matchups.

So, if Bama and LSU meet undefeated, it makes that game so much more memorable and suspenseful. May turn out to be a blowout and not live up to the hype. But, it will be the talk of the nation and the suspense leading up to the game will be pretty high. Makes it fun.

IMHO

I actually agree. With so much placed on winning a NC and your crystal ball count it is hard to remember that the reason you are a fan are the awesome games that aren't for championships.

You watch football to be entertained right? I don't see anything too entertaining about watching a blowout every single week. The epic games are what make the season memorable.

FWIW, I remember the iron bowl more than I do the NCG last year.

I agree.

While it's much more harsh on the nerves, having a season like Auburn 2010 was much more rewarding that simply dominating every opponent on the schedule.

I think that would probably have to do with the hype. I thought the Iron Bowl matched the hype given to it. All partiality aside, it was a GREAT game. It had hatred, off-the-field drama, huge comeback, Heisman winner.

The NCG wasn't as close as the final score looked. In addition, it did not meet the expectations of the anticipated track meet. It was a pretty sloppy game by both sides, but Auburn really dominated for the most part.

From a sheer game perspective as well, the Iron Bowl was a much better game than the MNCG.

It's definitely nice to get those close wins, but when you get to dominate everyone, you can put yourself in the whole "best team of all time" discussions the way 95 Nebraska always gets put up there.

Oh me too :P

But really, the 2010 Iron Bowl was one of those games you tell the grandkids about. It'll go down in football lore; the NCG feels ho hum in comparison.

Meh. Seeing the team do well is great, but the real pleasure of being a fan is watching your team go toe to toe with an equally matched opponent. The nail biters are always the more satisfying games...provided they don't end in bitter disappointment of course
