really? non LSU fanbases are objective? if all of the posters that hate LSU or are jealous of LSU quit posting this would be a very lonely place.

Mainieri. It's not even close.

Slight lean to Mainieri. Both are underachievers but baseball at least stays a consistent top 10 or even top 5 program.

You mean the way Mainieri had to replace almost all of his everyday players from last season and has LSU in a super regional this year when the expectations were nowhere near that? That's underachieving?

You can throw in the T&F coach has NCs as well, Men's Golf, softball and Gym were very good Top 4 as well. A lot of solid coaches except men's and women's basketball coaches.
PM is better than Miles. He overachieved with this team for sure.

If you asked this question at the end of November last year, they would have said Mainieri straight up.

Miles' problem (QB and predictable offense to some extent) is the fricking elephant in the room.

It's an on-going, constant issue with him. He hasn't addressed it...ever. It has cost him multiple games and unfortunately championships.

Mainieri is the better coach.

He had a good QB in Mettenberger in 2013, with two stud wide outs in OBJ and Landry, and a good RB in Jeremy Hill. So it's not like he hasn't addressed some of the offense or a passing attack. He just hasn't had the elite defense yet that he had in '11.

Just to clarify 1 win in Omaha in 6 years while you are at LSU is underachieving in my book. Decent chance it will be 1 in 7 years after this season. Kentucky wouldn't tolerate a similar result in basketball. This year I will give him credit for overachieving given the players he had. However as the head coach shouldn't he be able to reload at a school like LSU? Saban does it in football and as well as Cal in basketball.

Miles

But it's pretty cool that LSU has both, considering they are both easily Top10 and arguably Top5 In their respective sport.

LSU has it good. If we could just find a basketball coach worth a damn life would be grand year-round.

That's exactly the truth! NOBODY expected this LSU baseball team to be hosting a Super Regional.

I agree but this is not a "bash Miles thread" not at all. Not intended to be that in any way.

It may not be possible for an elite college baseball program to "re-load" like an elite college football team. With football, college football are the minor leagues for the NFL. The pro baseball leagues include true minor league teams, which, as you know are many with many different levels.

So, I doubt it's possible to "reload" in college baseball. Major League Baseball likes to hire prospects out our high school and send them to the minor leagues. Guys like Derek Jeter don't play college baseball, when they can go straight to pro ball in the minor leagues. That's my take anyway.
