This is a big year for Steve Spurrier. Not only does the Head Ball Coach turn 70, he’ll also see his 100th player picked in the NFL Draft.

During his time as a head coach at South Carolina, Florida and Duke, Spurrier has coached 99 players who were selected in the following NFL Draft, the most among active coaches.

Now do it in relation to the number of years they've been a HC.

That's one for every year he's been alive.

Man...just goes to show you how underachieving Spurrier was in the 1990s. The SEC was down in that decade, too.

So the SEC was down.

He wins 6 SEC titles.

Underachieving?

Sure, you would think he'd have more than 1 Natty, but FSU was quite the powerhouse then too. As were the Vols.

I think Spurrier is great, but he should have won more than 1 title when he had Florida rolling in the '90

Oh, no doubt he dominated the SEC in the 90s unlike any other coach, save Bryant in the 70s. But....only 1 national title. That's underachieving. As good as Florida was in the 90s they were still, at best, the second or third best team in the state of Florida.

And Tennessee beat Florida only twice during that decade. 1990 and 1998.

I thought Bryant only won 1 national championship in the 70's?

Exactly. I like Spurrier. But, let's not act like this is some mind blowing accomplishment

Don't piggyback off of what he did at Florida.

#1 for Active Coaches and #3 All Time, I think that's quite a fantastic accomplishment. Although, I don't think he'll catch Paterno at #1 All Time with 251.

Yeah, but if it's just counting draft picks the NFL draft had what, as many as 17 rounds back in Paterno's day?

Yep, they had their share of 27th or 30th Rounders.

I think you are piggybacking off of his 11 years at UF.
