Which Alabama or Auburn football 'mystery' would you most want to be 'solved'?

Say you were able to either (a) transport yourself back to be a fly on the wall during the key moments in question or (b) were to administer truth serum to those involved, guaranteeing they would tell the accurate story. Which Alabama or Auburn (or both) football "mystery" would you most want to know the truth about?
Who got paid, and by whom? There have been rumors and circumstantial evidence about any number of Alabama and Auburn football players through the years, but to know for certain who exactly got money, cars, jobs for their parents, etc., and whether or not coaches were involved or even knew about it would be fascinating.
Who did Paul "Bear" Bryant really want to succeed him as Alabama's coach? Some say Pat Dye, others say Gene Stallings. Had he gotten his wish, what would have happened with Alabama football in the 1980s?
Have officials ever been bribed to affect the outcome of games? We know it's happened in the NBA, so why not other sports? Has the winner of an Iron Bowl or other key Alabama or Auburn game been affected by refs on the take?

This is going to bring out some good ones.

I want to know why we threw a screen pass to a guy that had 130 yards for the year with less than a minute left in 1997.
I couldn't care less about who got paid.

Don't ask Dubose. He still doesn't know.

I would love to have a digital copy of the conversation between the Mississippi state boosters and Cecil Newton where msu tried to buy Cam Newton.
It would prove that miss state initiated the talks and Cecil just politely listened and did not turn them in. He is a pastor and forgave them.
Auburn and the NCAA already know that nothing took place. However, It would prove Auburn's innocence to the world.

I think it's pretty obvious that we should've hired Bowden after Bear. He was an option, and wanted the job, but felt insulted by how we handled it. If they treat Dabo the same way, history may repeat itself.

Comments like this are the only good thing about the off-season.

Auburn:
- Cam Newton: Because there is just no fricking way he wasn't compensated for signing.
- Did Tater Tot really bang Lowder's daughter?
- It's incredible to me still Chizik didn't win a single SEC game. How the frick does something like that happen?
Bama -
- Why the hell did we hire Bill Curry instead of Bobby Bowden?
- What did Bryant say to Bo Jackson to lose him to Auburn when he was all Bama?
- What did Stallings say to the NCAA that turned a traffic ticket into a felony case? How did they manage to screw that up so badly.
Think I know most of the Bama questions but still are all mysteries as to why it was allowed to happen.

I would be interested to know if there was anything to the Bear Bryant/Wally Butts scandal

The main thing is how Nick Saban has managed to bring in top classes without paying players or cheating. It's a remarkable feat.

quote:Coach Bryant didn't say anything to Bo. Ken Donahue recruited Bo for Alabama and he said Bo went to Auburn because his mama worked for a big Auburn alumnus/supporter. Also, Bo stated that he was told that he wouldn't play his first year at Alabama and it was known that NOBODY was guaranteed playing time at Alabama.
- What did Bryant say to Bo Jackson to lose him to Auburn when he was all Bama?
On an interesting note, Bo was not considered (by the media) to be the best running back in the state that year. The media touted Alan Evans as the number one prospect in the state. Evans also went to Auburn, but never played much.

I heard him talk about that during an interview. He was told he had the job. He agreed to take the job. He went to bed knowing that he would be named bama's HC the next day. The next day bama was naming Stallings as their HC.
ETA It was Ray Perkins who was named the HC at bama.

Ask Bruce Arians. He called the play. And was fired for it.
Bruce Arians. Fired by Mike DuBose.

Everybody got paid. So many have been paid by both that it would not really solve anything

Who really cares what one person "wanted". Dead drunk. Move on

yes they have and probably in most sports involving these two train-wreck programs.
