Since there is a likely chance he returns to his alma mater at South Carolina to become the new head coach, it got me wondering.. IMO he would be right behind Saban, if not in front of him. Compare Nick Saban and Dantonio's records at Michigan State and Dantonio comes out on top. The guy is currently 6-0 and ranked number 7, easily the best team in the B1G. Keep in mind he is doing this with 2 star recruits. He already has four 11 win plus seasons (including a 13 win season and BCS win) this year will make it his fifth.
He will win huge at Carolina with our resources. He will make South Carolina great again.

Place him right above where you would rank Bielema.

Isn't he a 10 point dog to Michigan?

He's got a winner. Why leave? He'll just use th SC job as smokescreen to get a raise.

But to answer your question: below everyone until he wins

I'd rank him as the second best coach in the SEC behind Saban.

Couple points of contention though.
1. He's not "doing it with two stars". They are not an elite recruiting school but they get their share. Still impressive to win that much with a recruiting disadvantage though.

2. He's not coming to SC.

Who would you put above him? Miles? When at similar schools he didn't have near the success.

Sumlin is last by rant by-laws.* So, ahead of Sumlin.

*Until such time as Sumlin takes the USC job, or an NFL job. At such time, he becomes a great coach whom Aggy has no hope of replacing.

Are any of the other SEC coaches masters of the dark arts?

I didn't think so.

He's legit. But he'd look average at SCU like SOS did. This ain't the big10

If he's behind Saban, he's third. Urban is better.

We will find out a lot this weekend. I don't think they are "easily" the best team in that conference.

He'd be below Bert. He has to be. Bert won 3 Big10 titles in a row before going to Arkansas. In the SEC…bottom of the division, albeit the toughest division in CFB over the past five years or so. That should tell you something about the SEC compared to other conferences. Look at Kiffin. 54% winning pct in the SEC, 65% at USC and that was with USC on probation.

Bert left the Big10 as a better coach than Dantonio, no reason for that to change now. You don't get put to the head of the line in the SEC until you've earned it. And you get booted to the back of the line pretty fast too. It's a tough conference. That's why I respect guys like Les Miles. Came to the SEC, worked hard, has done well, funny press conferences, good teams, and he's endured this for a long time.

Dantonio would be a scrub until he showed otherwise, just like Bert.
