As asked in another thread " why do people on this board use the term yankee as an insult?" one has to wonder where these "Yankees" come from. Usually it describes a Northerner, particularly a Northerner from an area that was pro-Union in the Civil War.

Mizzou fans get called "Yankee" all the time here. Which is strange, since Missouri was a slave state that didn't secede from the Union, but was represented by a star on the Confederate flag. Exactly the same as Kentucky. Are Kentuckians Yankees too?

East Tennessee was very pro-Union. Does that make Rocky Top a Yankee outpost in the South?

It is all very confusing. Especially since Florida is overrun by Cubans and New Yorkers.

People from Winston County are Yankees, IMO.

No.

Now please read some self-help books and work on your self-esteem. Some of your fanbases' cries for acceptance and understanding are getting to be pretty unbecoming.

The Stars and Bars, the real Confederate flag:

Yes since they couldn't decide who they wanted to fight for just like their chickenshit borderstate Yankee brethren in Missouri.

It is just because Missouri folks act weird like yankees. Plus they are pale and unattractive.

Anyone ever been to Missouri? Any area not named St. Louis or Kansas City is the complete opposite of the term "yankee".

What about Knoxville, Tennessee? That region region of Tennessee remained loyal to the yankees.

Even their top high school in town is named after US Navy Admiral David Farragut, a yankee war hero.

Bunch of traitors.

Yankee was a term the British coined for American troops, hence the term Yankee Doodle Dandy. It was an insult.

It's funny because in the Big 12 we would get called rednecks and hillbillies from Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa State fans for being considered a southern state. Now that we joined the SEC we are getting called Yankee's. You just can't win. That's what happens when you're a border state between the North and the South.
