Trent Richardson got 24 TDs over 2,000 total yards in 2011, why leave him off the list?
ETA: and played one less game that year then
Tre Mason did this season.

It was strictly rushing yards and not total yards.
Posted on 1/7/14 at 9:38 pm to CrimsonFever
because he got 1679 yards and 21 TDs
this is about rushing yards
this is about rushing yards

but shouldnt the amount of games a player played that season matter?
Pretty sure Mason is the only back on that list to play 14 games.

Tre Mason has 2,374 total yards and 25 touchdowns this season.

And let's not forget that we were using three runningbacks that split time evenly for the first four games of the season.

Did you watch Auburn's 2012 offense any? With Scot LOLOLOLeoffler calling plays? And Kiehl Frazier at quarterback? With Gene Chizik helping gameplan?

I loved Ben Tate, dude was awesome and like Mason overlooked by everyone all the time, but Mason has a more powerful lower body.

Herschel played fewer games, and had more yards.
There's a reason Herschel is #1 in the SEC, and there's everybody else.
If he'd played 4 years nobody would probably ever sniff his stats. Hell it's been 30 years and nobody has yet.

Mason is a very good, but not an all time great, even considering for just AuburnThere are probably half a dozen better backs at Auburn (Jackson, Fullwood, Tate, Cadillac, Ronnie Brown, Stephen Davis) we've seen in the last 20-25 years.
Much like the QB #'s you see from run and shoot or spread offenses, his numbers are clearly inflated to some degree by the system. Does anyone really consider a guy like Timmy Chang (Hawaii) in the GOAT discussion because he passed for crazy numbers in June Jones' spread offense? No. If you can't watch film and see the difference between Bo, Hershal, Shaun Alexander, etc..and a guy like Mason then you don't know football

Hershel also had way more carries, even with less games. So what's your point?

I believe the system argument has been covered in this thread already.

Again, go look at his numbers from last year

Would you still take Ronnie Brown or Cadillac over him?

The dude was really good. No doubt about it, but he put up those stats because the ball handed off 60% or more to him.

He's certainly a great player, but all of those besides McFadden played in a different era.
I wouldn't put him in the top 5 RBs in SEC history for sure, probably wouldn't put him top 10, but he's probably top 20 or so.
